There seems to be an influx of new members who have joined recently with really stupid nicknames...perhaps the administrators would take a look...............

Yes....

....we got rid of a few hundred last week.

There is a new upgrade to a program called XRumer that is used by spammers that gets through the checks and things at registration.  So far the barriers here seem to be working.  But they aren't on another forum and we have had to go to idividual checks of new registrations to keep them away.

Why do these moron's find it necessary to get their kicks from wasting peoples time....like the 'Windows Technical Support' who ring me up and say my computer is causing problems on their servers! And then ask you what operating system you are using! I find a few blasts from a dog whistle down the phone effective at getting them to ring off........

I hand the phone too the dog....of course after having said the magic words 'where's the cat'.................deep Labrador barks often do the trick.

I put on my "old man voice" and ask them to speak slowly while they tell me what to do.  But everything I do I seem to mis-type and the screen keeps going blank.  And sometimes I'm deaf and they have to speak up A LOT.

Hi,
within the last week, I seem to have lost my login so I reregistered with the same name but have not received an email in reply.
Today, I have tried to login again and...... here I am.
Could I have been a victim of the purge that sgould posted about?

Obviously, I have to reset my avatar, but I didn't think that 'johnr' was an odd user name.

Welcome! :)

As far as we are aware, we didn't do anything to exclude you. :)

But we have been doing things behind the scenes to try and stop the spamming.  When I saw that you had re-registered from the same IP address with roughly the same name, I activated your first account, just in case we had done something wrong.

The usual reason for non-receipt of the registration e-mail is that it has been filtered into your junk mail box.  Or refused by your ISP as spam.  It happens from time to time.  The e-mail comes from "noreply@saabtechtalk.com".

Would you like me to delete the second registration?  It would probably be best to avoid confusion.

Thanks sgould,
Yes please would you delete the second registration.
I seem to have lost my avatar as I said so I'll just put it back.
Thanks for your help

I have checked my junk mailbox and cannot see anything from saabtechtalk but I will go and explicitly allow it through.

John :)

Just been looking at the members list and discovered if you click on the ICQ column heading it lists all members (in descending order) who have added an ICQ address.  None of these people appear to have posted and a few have dodgy Yahoo Messenger addresses too!  Time for a clear out?

I'll have a look when I get back to the computer at home.  A lot of the "members" are automatically banned by the Cloudflare filter, but they stay on the list as banned members. If they are "deleted" the person can just re-register using the email details sent.

I did have a clear out a bit before Christmas, but I'll have another look.
