Boot lid warning
« on: 20 May 2018, 11:22:41 PM »
Had a warning flashing on the SiD this afternoon with an audible bing bong. The car symbol was flashing with an arrow pointing at the back of the car. I thought this was something to do with the parking sensors, but turns out it is the boot open warning. The boot wasn't open, and the warning stopped after a while.

I plugged in a generic code reader I have but it detected no falt codes. On start up, the SiD says "check ok".

So it this a dodgy sensor in the boot latch?

Your generic reader will almost certainly not read any fault codes other than engine related OBD2 codes. Did you open and close the boot as they can latch but not be quite shut.

I hadn't opened the boot at all, and hadn't used the car for a few days.

I noticed the light flashing on the SiD and an associated bing bonging, but it stopped as I carried on driving. When I got back I opened the boot with the key, and it unlocked and popped open as normal. Shut it again, and no further incidents this morning.....

Might it need cleaning or lubricating?

I've had microswitches wear at the point where they make contact - they're often just plastic things.
The one on my lawnmower bail-bar was a prime example. I located the microswitch and put shimming material under it. It worked for a couple more years, but eventually the switch completely failed and I had to replace it.
