Top Gear - Saab
« on: 20 February 2012, 11:33:04 AM »
It can be legally announce that Top Gear will be doing a piece on the history of Saab.
Confidentiality clauses have now been lifted, and the announcement has been made elsewhere.

Next Sunday 26 February 2012 BBC2 BBCHD 2000.

Jeremy Clarkson and James May pay tribute to quirky and recently deceased Swedish car maker Saab.
Plus current Doctor Who Matt Smith is the star in the reasonably priced car

I did report this yesterday in the news section, they'd put the details in the Freeview EPG and on some BBC websites so I figured any embargo had already gone! Anyhow, I'm looking forward to it, roll on next weekend. Now might be the time to list any classic Saab you want sold on ebay!

A small number have known before Christmas last year - and have respected the confidentiality clauses, as is correct and proper.

The author and provider of some aspects of the script is a friend to me, and others here - a walking encyclopedia of Saab, and some gems of stories, information, and facts.

Such a pity that this could not have been presented in a motoring programme, rather than Top Gear...(Cuts to Clarkson saying "Look at me - this is me driving a car that's more expensive than your house - sideways - in Italy, so nurrrr....and this is me again, dropping a grand piano on a Metro....because I can.....and this is me going up the side of a volcano in Peru in a Fiat Panda, just to show how rubbish they are at climbing volcanoes...and I'm using your TV license money!")

Nobody likes a smartarse - until they need one.

Not sure, to be honest I wouldn't watch a motoring programme as they've always been so boring with such poor presenters. I don't watch much television now but I do quite like Top Gear as it's a car related entertainment programme. I think they'll cover Saab very nicely, I'd even excuse them if they dropped a 9000 onto a caravan (as long as it's not an Aero manual or Carlsson!).

Top Gear gets the viewers though. And they have said they like Saabs before.

9000 onto a caravan? What would be the point of that? The 9000 would probably just shrug it off and drive away...

My Dad had one a ..... beautiful 1978 1800 HL in the same colour (Sandglow).

It kept leaking oil from the sump and was quite rusty.

My Ambassador was that colour.  Was it "Sandglow"?

I believe it was Sandglow. Also had a Marina in the same colour!

His first Princess was a 1977 1800 HL in a metallic bronze colour called Reynard Fox.

I remember the Princess was one of the first cars with a seatbelt reminder.
