Oil Changes
« on: 02 July 2011, 09:57:46 AM »
Hi, I am the owner of a 2002 9-3t low pressure, for several years to avoid the dreaded sludge problem I have been using Mobil 1 0-40 oil and changing it every 6 months approx. regardless of the mileage, the car has done 63000 miles and running very well, I do about 7000 miles a year. I am now thinking is it really necessary to change it every 6 months when using a high quality oil and perhaps let it run to 6000 miles, about 9 or10 months before a change of oil. Any thoughts?

Have you fitted the latest modification of the crankcase vent system.  The small pipes around the oil filler should have white writing on them, if you have.

I think that 6 months is only necessary if you on do low miles and short journeys.  It's the Saab recommendation.

Have you has a sump drop done? Even if you are using fully synth, it has probably had semi-synth in whilst serviced at Saab when it was new (er)
