Saab 9-5 97-10 USA
« on: 02 March 2013, 10:02:02 AM »
I have always thought that all 9-5's were turbo charged in one form or another, but apparently some in the US were not?
What's the story behind this? Anyone know?

Thanks

According to who? or where did you get that information from? All the production 9-5 models were turbo charged. No exceptions on the production cars! The only recent Saab model that wasn't turbo was the 1.8i NG9-3 with a Vauxhall engine in it.

A couple of saabisiti friends in the US - one has even rebuilt an engine, and there was no turbo charger in the car.
I smell fish.

Ask them for the 8th digit of the vin number for their car, it'll tell you what engine they originally had in the car.

Done.

All I can think is that a small turbo has been missed, or that a fishy engine refit has happened in the past, but for at least two to say they have no turbo, and they say what they are talking about, is curious.

the 3.0l lpt had a small turbo in the exhaust manifold casting of 1 of the 2 banks of 3  cylinders

9-2x 2.5i
9-4x 3.0i - that's more recent than the 9-3 1.8i
9-7x 4.2i, 5.3i, 6.0i Aero

:GEEK:
