Upgrading a Vector to Aero spec
« on: 26 November 2017, 11:25:57 PM »
Looking around at Aeros at the mo, but there are a lot of 175bhp Vectors in great nick about.

If I was to get one of these, how easy is it to upgrade it to 210bhp like the Aero, and is it more than just a remap? Does the suspension need upgrading too?

Also, how much does it typically cost to remap?

Have looked at something like this myself.

IIRC, and this only applies to Hirsch upgrades, the 150 bhp can be increased to 195bhp (which I have and is great fun!), the more powerful 175bhp can also be increased to 195bhp. So not as wide a grin! Neither can be a straight ECU upgrade to 210bhp (or beyond) without other amendments I'd guess, I've not looked into this.

There were some "half price" offers for older years on the above, like £399 instead of £999 (plus vat?), can't remember but you'd need to check with a Saab Hirsch specialist for what a specific model year can have.

Hope that helps!

if you get a remap you can make the same as the aero..yes the engine spec is different..cams,engine map, turbo, injectors etc..

To be honest, I wouldn't get a Vector Sport if I wanted an Aero (actually, this is what I did!). If you remap and upgrade the suspension then your insurance will be hiked due to mods and you'll be around the same spec as an Aero. If you were to buy an Aero and then remap and upgrade the suspension you'd be in a better place paying around the same amount for insurance.

Budget around £450 for a reputable/professional remap (I'd go for Hirsch) or maybe £100 for an enthusiast tune.

For suspension you'd be looking at Eibach springs (£135 ish) and some good dampers (£250-£450) also get new front top mounts and bearings if you do this (another £70), if you DIY then you'd only need the 4 wheel alignment at the end (£70-£100), if you pay someone to fit that suspension then you're looking at another £100-£200 depending on who does it without the 4 wheel alignment.

If the Vector comes with sport suspension, it will already have the same suspension as the Aero.  But on the early car we had, I found it too harsh and uncomfortable.
