I know the problem of clearing guns and tubes.  I’ve been redecorating the bathroom and have just got to the stage of reusing the foam aerosol and the silicone sealant after about six weeks... :)

Well, one year down the road and it's MOT time

Everything was going so well and I felt confident until I got to the n/s rear

Noticed what looked like a little hole. After a little gentle poking about I ended up dropping the skirt and liner for access and revealed this

So, this evening I shall be doing some welding and painting, before I can go home. The replacement sections are already made

The bottom of the rear arch was not so bad on the outside, only a cm or two of visible corrosion. I put it down to Scottish air. Most positive is I have managed to remove all the plastic nuts without snapping any of the screw threads

Mission accomplished on Sunday night, but it was nearly Monday by the time I finished

Took her in for an MOT today, failed on a front ball joint. That was a bit of a surprise as I thought I checked them with the pry bar. Never mind, I'll get one and then get a ticket

I may have to check the rear camber, mention of wear on the inner edges, I think I have some shims in stock, but the wear may not be from this car

I'm hoping that mine isn't as bad as that and any rust can be caught by a full underseal.  I've booked in at CC Automotive on Monday for three days.  Then it's the MOT,  I will see what they say about the cracked windscreen.  The crack is about 6 inches long and runs up the middl of the screen from the bottom.  Hopefully just an advisory.

Prepping the diesel at the moment, it's an 05 car.

Wandered round to the same place. Offside good, nearside showing signs of deterioration. Bilt Hamber time.

Looks like this is going to be a regular check on every one now

I have an MOT for another year

The ball joint was a bit of a pain, took nearly 3 hours as the pinch bolt refused to go in the right way. Most strange

The rear part of the car needs some more Bilt Hamber treatment & rustproofing

On with the grey one now...... needs 2 ball joints, I should be getting quite good at these by the end of the day.

How did yours fair Will ?

Bad news on mine.  It was going into CC Automotive for the under seal, but I got a message from Chris yesterday to say that he was ill.   His medical advice is that he has some breathing difficulty and it may be due to the chemicals he uses.  So he has cancelled all planned work for the time being and may give up altogether. :(

So it’s just the MOT next Friday.

Oh dear, a little surprising too I didn't think there were any nasties in the stuff. I lost a bodyshop guy a few years ago due to mouth cancer, it was suspected the trigger was the paint he used

Ball joints done,I have to say the MOT guy was right, both ball joints did have vertical movement, which I have to say on my pre MOT I did see some movement but thought it was flex rather than movement. Drives better now, I can feel the difference.

Track rod end & alignment on the diesel tomorrow. I'll have another look at the ball joints I think

More bad news...

My MOT is postponed.  No point in going that far for it to fail.  I got in the car this afternoon to get some shopping done and found that the 4 inch crack at the bottom of the windscreen has, after about 6 months of the crack just sitting there, decided to go all the way up the centre of the screen.  So, a new screen needed before I can get it tested... :(

I have had a little issue with the green car recently. It's been going occasionally into limp mode (error 15 on Opensid) and not into limp mode with error 10

DTC's seen were 1251 & sometimes 1231

Working through the DI & plugs I noticed the engine was hunting a little on idle & thanks to a borrowed Tech 2 I saw some misfires across all cylinders. Opensid error 10 came back a few times, but performance was unaffected & the limp mode was not activated. Finally P1231 popped up again.

WIS said it was a problem on the potentiometer in the throttle body. TB swapped, no misfires, no limp mode errors on opensid.

Strange things aren't they sometimes

Take the plastic cover off the throttle body control circuitry on the one you have removed.  I bet you find that the insulation on the cables has cracked or melted and left a few bare wires.

Sounds plausible... Jeff The Chef said exactly the same as I took it off

I didn't do the investigation as I have been busy doing final prep on the black saloon. I've been inducted into the wierd world of clay barring a car. It makes a difference doesn't it  ;D

I sometimes clay a car, but only if I'm going to a show.  Most of this year I have been removing leaves and moss from the cars after a month or so of inactivity...
