Less trade...more poubelle/parts car... :)

Went off the Dacia in the end owing to new model coming out today and our rep never told us this last Friday, despite us being with him over two hours going over model/features/figures...all felt a bit shady and underhand....pus the wait was 5 months and didn't get any deal on the new car....However, Wife called me yesterday to look at a nicely specced Peugeot 3008 1.2 PURETECH 130 ALLURE........not remotely Saab inside or out....deposit down. Collection next Wednesday.

So there we go, finally done it. Some lovely Saab memories though and time for another chapter....

That's quite the thread there...thanks though, a good read.

Wife has made THE decision and we are moving on.....to a brand New Dacia Petrol Auto Extreme SE TCe 150 (4x2) We had a test drive only on Friday...quite Tonka Toy inside...dare I say it slightly Saabesque.......it's been a fun Saab ride for 20 years........whilst I enjoy the challenge of the little  "challenges" it throws up.....it's time to move on........

It's been running fine since.......had a low battery message for the key fob as well, changed that so for the moment no issues.

It always seems to happen with other people in the car though....my front door locks don't always work and I always have to check the locks have gone down before I leave...though other passengers are always too eager to get out/in which seems to upset it.....we shall see what challenges the summer brings.....having shelled out for x4 coils I am hoping for a low maintenance one...

Hi team...

So, been out and about today...left the car locked out side in proper full sun....31c here today.....went to unlock car after it sitting for 7 hours from 8am this morning and it wouldn't open with the remote. Had to open with the blade/key then put remote in ignition with the alarm going off and all fine.

When I got home I had this error message from my Tech 2 B3116 00 http://z90.pl/saab/dtc/read.php?model=9440&doc=IDA1400 . No CEL on.

I have since tried to replicate the problem...but haven't been able to...is this a problem that can happen in extreme heat?
Shall I just move on and put it down to a Saab thing?!

What do you think?

Thanks,

M

Well, it can easily go to 160 bhp with alot more torque just with a simple map...get a bigger turbo and you can push 200hp.
If I had my time again I would have gone for a petrol 9-3 Aero....07 or newer.......just don't do the miles (less than 6k p/a) to justify a diesel and all the associated flannel with the dpf/emissions etc. The price of the diesel in UK is more than reg petrol now and it's the same here in France, so not as attractive despite the extended mileage........however, e85 is more than half price of 95/98 here in France..... :D

Good luck!

Go over to the dark side here https://www.vectra-c.com/forum/showthread.php?235900-What-mods-on-1-9-120  Teapot is your man for the dervs. Much like Karl/AKA Noobtune for the petrol. He was very helpful for me when I saw him 5 years ago.........you'll want to think about emissions and blanking various bits off as well I suspect.........not to mention new front boots  in a few months....... :D

Thanks Will....I shall take comfort in this and just drive the darn thing.I guess, deep down, because I got it at a low price, and it has nearly all the options other than a sun roof, I am always a bit worried it will bite me in the bum.....and the Wife wasn't too sure on getting our 3rd Saab in 25 years! It is almost 17 years old and needs a bit of TLC....this auto box is all new to me as well. I suppose I expect a few little niggles...it's just the failure of a gearbox/engine is a bit more dramatic than a powered wing mirror/central locking issues.....but hey ho.........it's a Saab and I guess other cars have issues as well.

Just thought I would post an update....

Since this time, I have purchased a Tech 2 clone and have read the codes. There are none that pertain to this issue...just one to do with the drivers mirror....nothing dramatic.

Now then...in trying to describe this strange subtle "brrrr" noise at lock up....in watching alot of videos and reading up more about it, it would appear that it would be obvious in a car when driving that it is happening. For me, being slightly more paranoid about noises, when it happens, which is not every time, it makes a soft "brrr" noise for about half a second and then it is gone. Engine gear changes are otherwise super slick and no other funny noises.

With this being my first ever auto box.....this was the deal breaker for the Wife.....with a torque converter on the way out, people talk about the noise at lock up is like going over rumble strips and you can definitely hear it/feel it....for me I can barely hear it/feel it....my Wife has no idea and can't hear it at all................

I have driven it over 1200 miles since the x4 drain and fill in all sorts of situations/ up hill/ full load/ slowly/beans.....

So question is...is it super obvious this 'rumble' effect?

Should I just move on and enjoy the car and wait for it to throw up a code?......basically is there much more I can do to find if I have faulty torque converter......especially as I have my new Tech 2?!

Thank you,

M

UPDATE alert...new Virtual COM adapter arrived today...plugged into old Sony Vaio XP laptop with GlobalTIS installed, drivers installed automatically. Then plugged in Tech2 and was able to get security access! Changed the setting for the auto lock on the doors at drive off and disabled it and it works! So that's all good! Hopefully I won't have to use it on my car too many times but it's good to have the comfort knowing that if something goes 'bing bong' then I can access the data as well as helping others in my area and if the worst comes I can marry stuff to it.......happy days...

Might have another play tomorrow....so much fun! Wonder if I can enable the ejector seat function....... :)

Car Battery (9-3 2.0t 2006) No problems with starting but just put my DMM on it, as you do, since my 30 min round trip two days ago and it reads 12.1V at rest. Done the load test as well with my handled jobbie. Think this is a bit on the low side. Starting, its just over 14v so alternator is working good. Battery was put in 27 August 2018 by previous owner but of course doesn't mean it was 100% when put in. I was under the impression that around the 12v  mark this is a sign that the battery is on its way out......guess 3.5 years is not so bad......do a fair amount of mainly short trips, so is my current battery manly enough? Thanks for your thoughts...

Thanks ...good to know this...so a 10 min session or so won't be a problem then.

I haven't got a cigarette lighter charger....do I need it for my car? 9-3 2006...I suppose its the same as plugging it into the OBD2 port anyway......is it better to have the car actually running when using the Tech 2 do you think?

Right, had a little play....

One code.... :D  DDM B1585 06
Believe this is a short of some description to the wing mirror......don't think this is the end of the world , think we can live with that one!

Was going to play with it some more but didn't have engine on so worried a bit about zapping the battery...

Security access cable should be with me next week and guess that's when the fun can start.....seem to have Global TIS set up on 'pooter but can't seem to get TIS2000 on it........fun times ahead!

Thanks...got bit distracted installing TIS2000 from here https://www.saabcentral.com/threads/setting-up-tis2000-and-globaltis.665465/ on my old 2002 Sony Viao Windows XP......it's taking ages.....I do have GlobalTIS installed but just thought I would put that on it as well...........Wifes out shopping so I can be the boss.......... :)

I'll report back once all downloaded.......this 90's tech is so mahoosive and dated....

Thanks for replies...went for the Ebay one https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/233371790456?hash=item36560aec78:g:RboAAOSwFVJeIaRv&mkevt=1&mkcid=1&mkrid=710-53481-19255-0&campid=5338768598&toolid=10001&customid=130832X1595947X23b2a6c9c597b06af1f0a7480ef33598  probably a bit on the steep side but I thought in my tiny head if it all goes wrong I can pass on the complete diagnostic package to another 9-3 owner and not loose out.

Going to have a play this morning...without security access...to see what I can do.

Question...on power.......I know it is powered by the OBD2 port but for it to work you need to turn key to on.....won't this start to drain battery ....can you infact turn on the engine and do things on the Tech 2? Don't want to render it as a paperweight so early doors into my possession.....

Thanks,
M
