Screwfix ....  They are 5 mins down the road, next to Toolstation.  Euro Car Parts are 15 mins away.  Machine Mart are 30 mins

Same here for Screwfix, Toolstation and Euro Car Parts - but my Machine Mart is just opposite ECP.  With a Halfords (who aren't as bad as they're made out) also 5 mins away.

Happy birthday for Tuesday Will - have a good week.

Correction... I blame old age.  My birthday is Tuesday.    ::)

Busy week.  Monday - shopping. Tuesday - birthday lunch. Friday - a walk in the park with the U3A. Saturday - family lunch. Sunday a trip to Southampton for grandson's 2nd birthday party.

Maybe I'll fix the car the week after...

Superb  ;D
I'm only 45 and genuinely didn't know how old I was this year, I had to work it out! Getting the wrong day is fairly good going.

My birthday is not important.  The only important dates are SWMBO's birthday and our wedding anniversary... :o

And as it's past midnight, my birthday is tomorrow, after all!! :D

I had another try at this this morning, having searched out my old set of imperial sockets, and another 1/4" drive set, but still failed. :(  It's either too long or too short.  The water feed to the turbo also get in the way

Definitely inaccessible from below with the Hirsch sport cat there.  I'll speak to Joe later.

I may not be there until next week.  Too much to do this week.  But we will see.

I got the longer Torx bit kit from Euro Car Parts in Harrow this morning, and some other bits from Screwfix. I reckoned that I had every option to get the CPS unscrewed.  Tried them all, but without some extensive dismantling, I still can't get enough purchase on the screw. :(  I think the screw is a bit corroded and needs the driver to be perfectly square.

So definitely given up now.

Best effort was with the hex bits from my DeWalt drill/screwdriver, plus a Dewalt universal joint, a hex to 1/4 inch sq convertor and a 1/4 to 3/8 convertor and a ratchet handle.

I never had a problem doing these (although, far easier if the car is in the air on a ramp), always used either a short handled Halfords professional ratchet or a Halfords ratchet spanner with a torx bit and access the CPS from underneath, not sure if that would help if you have limited access due to a larger down pipe though.

I had a look from under, and there's no way through.

I started to feel like Bernard Cribbins and "Right said Fred".  If I take bit more off, I should be able to get in there...

But enough is enough, I think.

Sorry to hear that, I am a little surprised it's putting up so much resistance. Shame you aren't closer
