Years ago I changed out the 2002 Aero aluminium finish for the light walnut from the Arc model.

I'll have to remind myself what that looks like, it's been such a long time since I sat in the drivers seat. I am familiar however with what the bare block looks like  ;D

It's a strange spec this car. Arc trim level, what I assume is a dark walnut dash but full leather seats.

The bit of history I have with the car shows that when new it had a private registration, something like KDD 95. Perhaps the original owner liked a cheap car specced up a bit ?

My current Dame has a "Black Walnut" dash.  It appears black unless the sun is shining directly on it and you look at the right angle.  The photo shows the grain better than it appears to the naked eye.

Put this in for an MOT today, partly as a bit of QC.

Not quite a pass,

NSF bottom ball joint (missed that, deceived by the invoice for a pair of them at the last MOT, the OSF actually was new), silly mistake, easy fix
Headlight aim - too high, but already fixed
Rear spring plate damaged - missed this, but it confirms that a pair of rear dampers / springs is the best solution, bolts already treated for easy removal

An advisory for a bit of play in one of the rear "void" / rose bushes. I'll recheck that, but based on previous experience I think I'll be buying a tool, this seems to have a decent review https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Vauxhall-Opel-Vectra-A-B-SAAB-9-5-BMW-3-Rear-Axle-Subframe-Rose-Bush-Tool/193056636699?

The package from Saabits arrived yesterday so I now have a working drivers door window. I struggled with this simple job, but eventually decided the arms were slightly bent so tweaked them back where I thought they should be.

Note for others, and myself in case I ever forget: Green rollers in the grooves with the retaining pin, press the ball joint onto the roller, front one first. Should be a doddle really

I was advised to press the greeen rollers on with the spring clip in place.   I got the info about a week before I needed to do the job. I used a small G clamp to do the pressing.  The bit that I haven't done, because I got the advice too late, was to drill out the pop rivets and replace with a short bolt and a wide washer.  The pop rivet works loose, which results in the mechanisn twisting a bit, which in turn causes the arms to bend.  It's on the list and I'll do it soon. ::)

I didn't have a small g-clamp, but did try with some medium mole grips, but I only used limited force.

Once the arm was straightened, both ball joints pushed into the roller by simply squeezing between my fingers and the palm of my hand.  One of those jobs which is easy when the rest of the installation is in good condition.

An interesting day or so.

I decided I wanted to see the condition of the rear bush before I replaced it. Well, that was yesterday afternoon and I discovered that if play is detectable, they are generally completely u/s, so I forced the rose joint out and cut the metal case so that I had a nicely clean hub to press the new one in.

There's a but....... but because I had wanted to inspect before buying the bush and more importantly the tool to remove / install them, it was going to be a challenge pressing a new one in, especially a lower one as there is less room because the mounting point for the shock absorber is in the way.

After a bit of head scratching I remembered I had a 7' length of 48.5mm tube on the shelf (for very tight nuts) and some 5mm flat plate. So I decided to make a bush press. The quite interesting bit was cutting a length of tube lengthways, taking 12mm of material away and then seam welding it back up again.

The finished result is below....... but untested as yet

The other item in the picture is a broken lower ball joint bolt. That's the second one I have found to be broken. Examining the fracture the break is corroded, so it isn't my removal technique. I'll put up another thread up on that subject.

I have also monaged to source a pair of s/h rear dampers from an Aero estate, so those have been cleaned, painted and the second one will be fitted when the rose joint is done.

At the third time of asking I managed to get the correct front ball joint and the right quality from ECP, so she went for a retest today (the bush tool worked well)

It's a pass, no advisories  :)
