Following on from the Steve Jobs thread, I rather liked this article - click to read the whole thing.

IIRC I bought my first SAAB, a 1973 99 LE Auto, the same year I got my first iMac, all 233Mhz of Bondi blueness.

Any tips for how to approach it / what to remove to get to it?

Very sad indeed.  I got into Macs in 1996, when my then-girlfriend told me convincingly how much better than PCs they were.  Fast-forward to 2011 and I remain inseparable from both the then-girlfriend and Apple products :D

I shall think of Steve when my iPhone 4S arrives on Friday  8)

I have to say I feel like a bit of a twonk - this one was diagnosed as a loose connection at the positive terminal ...  ???

Thanks - much carb cleaner expended and it's very nearly as it should be.  My Saab tech reckons next step is to replace the AIC but I'll wait and see how it goes. I think the cooler weather is helping too.

I'm with Trenchfoot.  I use similar stuff on the family's bikes, but for cars I'd like to know that the tyres are sound.

That's very cool indeed - both the car and the visitor  8)

Did Nige take it for a spin?

Hi all,
I'm based in South London and am looking for a relatively local saab indy mechanic or garage that can look after my 93 HOT 'vert.
I've tried a much mentioned garage based in Sydenham, but for various reasons i'd like to find somewhere new.

Any suggestions gratefully received...

A bit late in replying, but +1 for Carlssons in Leatherhead.  Maybe a bit out of your way but they know their stuff.

Thanks, WW - sold it today to another bloke, for the asking price, so all's good :)

I'm guessing that's a 'feature' - the digital radio cuts off the analogue signal so as to avoid interference and provide the clearest possible digital signal?

Cleaning and Detailing / C900 convertible spoiler - what to use?
« on: 02 September 2011, 03:48:31 AM »
Hi gang

What's your favoured product for cleaning / shining / feeding the black wrap-around spoiler on a C900 'vert?  They go a bit hard and brittle with age, so I'd like to keep mine in good condition :)

Sadly it's not just sellers.

I'm trying to sell my V70 at the moment. Advertised for less than it's worth, and less than others of similar age / mileage, because I want a quick, no hassle sale.  Guy came to look at it, spent a good hour going over it, including a good long test drive. Pronounced it exactly what he was looking for and showered it with compliments. Then walked away without making an offer - and didn't even bother to call, despite promises that he'd let me know either way that same afternoon.

Thing is, it's a good example of a good car. So more fool him, really.

Saw a 9-7x by the Pleasance this morning, on Dutch plates. Was going to snap a quick photo but there were people in it who might have thought I was a bit odd ...

I'm in Edinburgh at the mo on hols.  This used to be the city of Swedish cars - C900s, 9000s, and Volvo 940s and 960s. Sad to say, not so much any more.  So far the classic Saab count includes:

- C900 convertible on the A84 on Saturday, being enjoyed the way it should: two up with the roof down, and the heater on no doubt.
- NG900 convertible a few miles later, being similarly enjoyed
- What looked like a 99EMS on Queen Street, but it had gone by the time I returned to investigate
- R-reg 9000, Scarabe Green, in it's natural habitat of Stockbridge
- Cherry Red 2-door 900i crossing the Mound

and that's it.  Where have they all gone? :(
