Standard Aero alloys
« on: 17 March 2022, 09:36:00 AM »
Just wanted to check the markings on a set of 17" Aero alloys to make sure they are the right part for a 9-3 Aero.

The markings I've been sent pics of are:
7J x 17 H2
1278571 which I assume might be the part number??

That part number is one digit short.  Should be 8 digits.

I looked in the wheel database http://saabarchive.net/index.php/wheels/wdb and found two.  12785710 & 12785711, both have 41mm offset which is what you need for a 9-3.   12785710 are the ALU50 original 9-3 Aero wheels.

Sorry I missed the last zero off that first part number you quoted so sounds like they are the right ones

Well I am pleased. A set of 4 Aero alloys in good used condition with tyres with good tread, and all for £100. Just been down the M40 to near Aylesbury to pick them up.

Strange how things pan out. I saw these alloys on Ebay with a starting bid of £100 and no bids but 10 watchers. I waited until the auction was almost over, and thinking there was going to be a bidding frenzy, I put in a max bid of £135 with 20 seconds to go, not worried if I didn't win them.

It counted down to 1 second and then the screen froze. As I frantically refeshed the screen, a page popped up I have never seen before which said something like "we are determining who won the auction"....and after a few seconds another page appeared saying I had won it.....for the starting price, and I was the only bidder!!

Thoughts drifted to carrying out a light refurb with a spraycan on a couple of these alloys that are marked, or the paint finish isn't quite up to it. So whilst I know the paint code for my car, I don't know was the paintcode is for Aero alloys in their standard form. Anyone know what it is? And is it the same colour that was used on some of the car bodies?

Saab never published a paint code for the wheels.  There are lots of guesses, but nobody really knows.
