About time we had at least one post in here.  So how about this - found whilst idly browsing.

Some pics for when the Craigslist ad goes down:

Took my 'vert to my indy yesterday and ended up parking next to its twin:

I've got to get rid of that exhaust, it really does look silly.

OK, the latest in my C900's eccentricities.  Possibly related to the stalling problem?

The short version is that it dies when there's too much electrical load.  A few examples:

- Driving along at constant speed, esp at low revs, if I put two of the windows down / up the radio dies and the car stumbles / stutters
- Rolling slowly into my garage, I hit the brakes and the car often dies
- Without much electrical load it idles reasonably smoothly (for a 900).  Turn the lights, fog lights, HRW on or put the roof up / down and it nearly dies.  In fact often it does die when you operate the roof.

So far we've replaced most of the vac lines, cleaned the throttle body and replaced the idle control valve.

Ideas?

Following on from the Steve Jobs thread, I rather liked this article - click to read the whole thing.

IIRC I bought my first SAAB, a 1973 99 LE Auto, the same year I got my first iMac, all 233Mhz of Bondi blueness.

Any tips for how to approach it / what to remove to get to it?

Cleaning and Detailing / C900 convertible spoiler - what to use?
« on: 02 September 2011, 03:48:31 AM »
Hi gang

What's your favoured product for cleaning / shining / feeding the black wrap-around spoiler on a C900 'vert?  They go a bit hard and brittle with age, so I'd like to keep mine in good condition :)

I'm in Edinburgh at the mo on hols.  This used to be the city of Swedish cars - C900s, 9000s, and Volvo 940s and 960s. Sad to say, not so much any more.  So far the classic Saab count includes:

- C900 convertible on the A84 on Saturday, being enjoyed the way it should: two up with the roof down, and the heater on no doubt.
- NG900 convertible a few miles later, being similarly enjoyed
- What looked like a 99EMS on Queen Street, but it had gone by the time I returned to investigate
- R-reg 9000, Scarabe Green, in it's natural habitat of Stockbridge
- Cherry Red 2-door 900i crossing the Mound

and that's it.  Where have they all gone? :(

I've been meaning to snap one of these and post it for a while - this is the front of the parking ticket machines all over the city:

Anyone know if it's possible?

As mentioned in the "What car would you have if it wasn't a Saab" thread, I've been thinking about an old-school V8.

So today I put a deposit on this:

It's a '74 Charger in need of a fair amount of TLC.  But it's all there, including the recently-rebuilt 360ci V8.

Wish me luck ... :D

The latest little gremlin to afflict my C900:

It's been hot lately.  100 degrees hot and more.  On a few occasions now, after a run and then being switched off for a few minutes - eg stopping to get petrol - the 900 refuses to start.  All the lights come on, the various lights go out as expected when you turn the key to 'Start', but then nothing.

Give it half an hour to cool down, and it's fine.  Or get it rolling and it'll bump-start into life no problem.

Would this be the solenoid?

Just got myself an Android phone after a few years of iPhones. Slowly getting to grips with the UI.

Anyone got any good app suggestions?
