Well car has been running well but last night coming home in pouring rain from a meeting up on the coast I suddenly noticed the engine management light come on but car carried on fine then coming to a junction went into limp mode. Would not budge above 2k revs and was really hard to go up any slight hills - rather unnerving in the dark and rain.....................

Plugged my code reader in this morning and Code P0404 comes up - EGR Control Circuit Range/performance

Whilst the car was in having new intercooler and hose, condensor and radiator they did the software update as well - could any of these have upset things or does this sound like a simple connector not fixed in position securely? The road was pretty rough and very very wet with several large puddles.

Main dealer might be able to look at it later today but I have got breakdown insurance thro my bank and so have called them out first incase it's simply cleaning out EGR????

I am surprised as I only use V Power diesel and don't hang around; very few short runs and need car to go to North Yorks on Friday and then London on Tuesday. Since getting her early December she's been running fine so I somewhat perplexed this has occurred after it being in dealers.

Any thoughts chaps - I know Andrew has blanked his EGR's on his TTiD's so perhaps I need mine done. Who did yours Andrew as we are close to you.

Anyone had to replace their intercooler hose on a TTiD 9-3???

Filled up my screen wash yesterday and noticed that big fat pipe to left of battery cover looked rather shiny???? Upon a closer look there is a half inch long split in it but I'm not sure if it has gone right through or not or how long it has been like it???? I think the part number is 12822777 according to parts chap I know at Thurlow Nunn. He say's it looks like they have a book time of 1.4 hrs to replace it but he thinks some of that could be for resetting the system after it had blown but mine so far seems intacked I hope. Is this easy to replace with limited knowledge????

The part to me is £101.77 Service Club cost.

I am going tow rap some wide (I have some 50mm wide) thick insulation tape round it to hold for the moment but how long will this hold and what will happen when it does go???

Cheers chaps

Evening chaps.

2009 9-3 Aero TTiD Estate Man 6 speed 114k

It was really cold this morning and had to remove thick layer of ice of car. She started fine after a while - bit longer than I felt she should but.................. and pulled out of my drive and off I went. All seemed fine but I felt the gear change to be quite stiff moving the lever between gears. After a while though when obviously warm the gear change seemed fine and quite smooth.

Is this common with this 6 speed box which I assume is used in petrol and diesel. Bear in mind it was service in December and only done about 600 miles since then and no mention of it by technician but then again it was already warm engine and gearbox. Does this sound like I need a fluid change?? Clutch is lovely and smooth from cold just gear change stiff.........................

Lastly do these suffer from engine mount issues???? When it starts (even from warm) it does seem to make quite a thump feeling which I never had with other diesels.

Hi chaps.

I noticed on my 9-3 TTiD Aero Estate that there are slots in either side of the roof at the front and half way back.

I know some have full length roof bars but it this an option to simply fit cross bars when the side bars are not there??

BTW the car still puts a nice smile on my face each time I drive it........................

Good morning everyone.

I hope you all had a good Christmas and looking forwards to a prosperous New Year. My thoughts are with those of you affected by the floods.

Q? I now have a 2009 mdl 9-3 Aero TTiD estate which has the wonderful xenon headlamps and LED eyebrows and I'm wondering if anyone knows if there's the option to have these activated as DRL's through TECH2? The handbook mentions about DRL's but obviously they weren't compulsory when the car was originally brought into the UK. It would be a nice option to have when it's next in dealers and perhaps saves on the xenons life as I leave headlamp switch on all the while so they are on all the while when driving.

Apart from that and being used to 9-5's (had 4 of them) this 9-3 although surprisingly smaller seems to suit me well. It rides really nicely on the 18" alloys and doesn't seem to change much whether just me or with 5 up................ the power range just makes me smile..................

Hi chaps.

Can anyone tell me the part number for the interior rear view mirror for my newly acquired 2009 mdl 9-3 Aero Sportwagon TTiD 2009. It currently has the manual one - no doubt penny pinching by accountants - I assume the wiring would be there behind the existing?

Anyone know how long it would take to fit??

Thanks

Just to say that there are now two places to get full Hunter 4 wheel alignment in Norwich.

it used to be just Autotest on Airport est but the Kwik Fit on Dereham Road now has it and you can get in there with very little notice and only one chap in there does it. He did my camper van and my Passat. Camper needed front and slight rear adjustments and cost £74 whereas Passat having new shocks/springs needed front and rear alignment and camber at rear £92 - very stisfied and you can watch on screen the checks and adjustments happening. Go back after about a month for free check and adjust if necessary!

Autotest were on two week bookings!!!!

Well chaps - I just don't seem to be getting on well with this Passat I have now. Nothing really wrong with the car but I don't think either it suits me or I suit it????????

The ride is still very hard and I'm thinking of my back as I get older so it may have to go. I'm pretty sure I know of a new owner for it which leaves me wondering???????????

I would still like a Subaru Legacy in diesel form but all seem either engine problems (thro poor maintenance I suspect) or galactic miles................... Can't find a Volvo V50 with low miles and so on.

However there appear to be a few 9-3 estates in either Aero or Vector Sport guise 1.9 Ttid's for my sort of money so I thought I throw it out there to see what folks think. I assume both have the same sport chassis so ride would be comfy but Aero obviously has the better kit.....................over to you chaps to discuss :)

Classic Saab 9-5 (MY 1998-2010) / Sad to leave again

Doesn't seem long since I said cherio but I'm afraid this is it now.

I've had many years of Saab motoring and all wonderful when the car went but as of late most of you will know I've had a shed load of problems which I worked out have set me back around £2500 since November.

The car is now sold and ironically now all is sorted it has gone for £2500 and I think judging by others I've done quite well to get that for a 2006 car with 122k on it.

I'll still be around but will be driving a 2008 Subaru Legacy Estate in petrol form.

Cheers for now and I'll keep in touch with a piccie when collected.

Classic Saab 9-5 (MY 1998-2010) / Squeaky squelly sound!
« on: 04 March 2015, 12:37:33 PM »
The title say's it all.............................

My 2007 9-5 1.9TiD Vector Sport auto estate has developed a strange noise which can only be described as a squeal under moderate to hard acceleration but goes when easing off and not present until engine warm. Very noticeable as an auto.

At first it sounded like the aux belt loose but it's still there after changing this! Cambelt is relatively new having been changed a year ago around 12k miles.

My own garage is having it in and stripping the wheel arch liner out etc and taking belt of to try all pullies/tensioners etc.

Just wonder if anyone had had a similar situation as the which it could be.

I assume the belt runs the alternator, a/c compressor & power steering pump with 1 or 2 tensioner pullies??? Presume waterpump runs off cambelt?

Any idea chaps and which is most expensive to replace using either Saab or equiv GM parts.

Classic Saab 9-5 (MY 1998-2010) / P1901 and P2279
« on: 12 February 2015, 08:54:51 AM »
Is this a coincidence or not related having both these two codes appear at the same time??

I do have issues with P1901 which seems to relate to the small rubber section of pipe from DPF to sensor. This does look like it has a small kink in it exactly where the small bend is but could this be the real culprit to throw this code. If there is a small kink reducing the size of the pipe is there the chance that the gases that I suppose pass up this pipe to the sensor could have soot particles in it that could slowly narrow the pipe?? I've found that when cold I can move the pipe around and reduce the bend but obviously after a while when engine warm it must make the pipe more pliable and the kink returns. It appears you can't get that small section of rubber hose as both Saab and Vauxhall want you to have the whole thing for £75. Does anyone know if you are able to separate the two sections and replace with a straight section of similar rubber hose?????

As for code P2279 this says air intake leak. When my car was in my local garage the chap checked intercooler and found all was ok. He then checked all hoses and found them secure but one wasn't a brilliant fit. This is the large rigid plastic pipe that comes off side of the turbo and goes to the MAF (well I assume that's what it is) where it connects to rubber MAF hose. NOw the connection onto the turbo doesn't look exactly right and we've noticed the small bracket that holds the pipe onto the engine head has sheared off so the thought is that as you put foot down and engine flexes under power this may bend the pipe at the turbo???? Hopefully we will resolve that one today as new pipe and gasket/washer/seal (turbo end) arrived yesterday.

Any thoughts gents - Audax any clues if these sound plausible cures? I will book it into main dealers next week when I can and get diagnostics done for the £49 offer through SSC but will this tell us anything else?

Just had my copy of Saab Torque come through and was pleased to see in the 'Fixed Price Repairs' that warning light/diagnostics check for £49 ....yes £49...................

Seeing as mine is still playing silly bu99ers with code P1901 I'll now book it in for full read!!!!

Think we've found one problem in the DPF sensor pipe (rubber) did have a kink in it near the slight bend and after straightening it car seemed better (but still go air going in somewhere giving overboost warning) until engine warmed up and pipe must slowly bend back and hesitant boost till EML comes on. May try holding in position with cable tie to see if this is the real problem as that pipe is £75 complete; you can't get just the rubber; then again I suppose it could also have a slight blockage having had a kink in it??

Classic Saab 9-5 (MY 1998-2010) / Air Rushing Noise??????
« on: 07 January 2015, 04:14:02 PM »
Since having a new turbo fitted on my 2007 9-5 Vector Sport est 1.9TiD I have had a strange noise occurring whilst engine under load accelerating.

The car is running absolutely fine and after 500 miles the turbo is spinning fine but having allowed it 500 miles to settle in I have noticed when using a bit more right foot there appears to be a rushing of air noise coming from the engine - all I can describe is it sound like the rush of air through an intercooler - I remember this from my old 9k Aero when Abbotts put their big intercooler on that - hit the loud pedal and you got the sort of deep throated rush of air noise; this sounds like that  :o It runs fine, mpg is good and everything seems sound. The garage checked out all the pipework and nothing appeared loose etc so just wonder if now the turbo is working properly it might be me hearing intercooler??

Is this a sign of new intercooler being needed? Garage seem to think mine is ok but............................

Any ideas gents - now you've all got over the Christmas binge time............... la la la

Classic Saab 9-5 (MY 1998-2010) / Do Not Use This Company for Turbo's
« on: 24 December 2014, 11:02:21 AM »
As the message says - stear clear of a company called Quality Turbo's who I mentioned in a previous post.

http://www.qualityturbos.co.uk/

I ordered a re-manufactured turbo from them on Friday - (they had two on the shelf) for delivery this week Mon/Tue which would mean I can get my car back on the road again. I paid over the phone using bank card but oddly got a PayPal receipt via e-mail.

Nothing had arrived yesterday by 10.30 so I tried calling them - several times with no response. They had said they were open this week. So I used good ole Google to find exactly where they are and find out the business next door to see if they were open - bingo - the company I called aid they'd seen someone there and actually walked round with their phone and spoke to them. Got a chap who took my number for his boss to call back. An hour later I had a call and said he was sorry but after some confusion he'd found it hadn't been sent but I would get it this morning!!!!!!!! I accepted there can be mistakes but why no one call me.

He asked for my mobile to send me tracking info.

30 mins later I had a text saying nothing sent as he hadn't got one finished and couldn't now get into stores till after christmas and loads of bull***t about an employee and at bottom said' I assume you'll be wanting a refund....' within seconds I had said yes ( I had found one at GAP Turbo's which arrived this morning) and waited. I've sent 4 texts as no one answers the 'phone with no response. My 'phone says message delivered and even this morning nothing................... I called PayPal as nothing had shown on my account and they said he shouldn't have sent a PayPal receipt in any case and they can't help as not through my account.

I am now speaking to my bank and getting a charge back for non supply of item.
