The wing the bodyshop couldn't fit
« on: 19 October 2019, 04:23:42 PM »
So here is the wing that the bodyshop said they could not get to fit on my Aero. They said there were 'spacers' missing so they could not get it to line up, and that it would sit too far back touching the front of the drivers door.

The only thing I can see missing is the bracket that the bumper attaches to.

What is missing?

Where is the wing from - another car ?

Unless there were changes between years I cannot see why there would be any issue. I assume 9-3 wings are bolt on just like the 9-5, in which case why not DIY ?

EPC lists the same wing for 2003 to 2011 MY cars BUT the wing for the 9-3X has different part numbers, no spacers though and the brackets are the same for both wings........

Yes, the wings must be different.  The bonnet on the later cars is the clamshell type and sits on top of the wing when closed.

So, my front driver's side wing has had some botched attempt to sand it down and respray with a can at some point. It also has some blistering rust on the front edge. So rather than get it repaired/resprayed, I thought I'd buy a 2nd hand wing in 170 Black, and simply swap it onto the car.

So I got this one off a guy who was breaking what I think may be an 04 or 05 9-3ss. Mine is a 56, but still pre-facelift.

I only gave it to the bodyshop as they already had the car in, sorting out the rust in my rear arches. But they said they couldn't fit it, so ended up putting the old one back on. I was wondering if what they meant by spacers was the bracket at the front edge that the bumper must clip to? I have seen these advertised separately for around £10 or £15 I think.

So even if I tried to fit this myself, presumably, I'd need a new one of these?

Here is the bracket thingy I found on Ebay....only 9 quid. Not sure how it is fitted to the wing itself?

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Saab-93-9-3-2006-Driver-Side-Front-Wing-Bracket-12785982/273878877150?hash=item3fc47403de:g:xaYAAOSwQXlc-Wj-

But I would have thought they would have tried to take this off the original wing and fitted it to the new wing first??

so it sounds like all I need is that bracket...although you'd have thought I could swap that off the old wing? So why couldn't the bodyshop do that?
