Classic Saab 9-5 (MY 1998-2010) / head lamp level adjustment
« on: 15 December 2014, 11:41:46 AM »
Hi

i have an issue with my 99 V 9-5 estate

the nearside headlamp is not responding when I attempt to adjust the level using the 3-position switch, offside moves fine so i guess the switch is good and there is an issue at the lamp end of the circuit

any thoughts on where I need to start poking about

TIA

now you have cleaned it out with WD40 apply some lithium grease, will last a lot longer and is more appropriate for lubricating the door mechanism

Is it not the case that you often get the failure message before they actually fail - because the system picks up the increased resistance of a failing bulb?

that is certainly my experience, checking all the bulbs is a PITA but there will likely be one that is on its way out

I got a back box with an oval pipe, but no chrome trim, from National before Christmas for my '99 V ~150 IIRC

will have a look for the receipt to see if there is a part number

thanks for the K-seal tip

after a good soaking with WD-40 and tapping the torx bit home with a hammer managed to loosen the torx to get a better look at what was going on, then the heavens opened so rain stopped play but it looks like it could be a jubiliee clip that is away

Classic Saab 9-5 (MY 1998-2010) / coolant leak
« on: 23 August 2011, 05:33:37 PM »

I have what I suspect to be a coolant leak, not quite gushing out but noticed a wet patch the other day and the couple of droplets that were still clinging to the front cover underneath the car were blue in colour and to the feel had that kind of lubricity you get with glycols. The patch is about 3-4 inches to the left of the left hand end of the number plate - I know it could be coming from any where and flowing to that point but it might help in locating the source. The next issue is gettting the cover off to get a better look from underneath - the torx that hold the cover on are in a bad way and stuck pretty fast, given the cover is plastic they are not going to get the blow torch treatment so any tips for freeing these and potential sources of the leak will be appreciated.

cheers

had water in one of the tailgate lights in the past which gave me a cold shower when opening the boot after a spell of torrential rain

now all sorted, brake and tailgate lights were on their way out - hardest part of the process was convincing the guy in the motor factors that I didn't need 21W bulbs for the rear lights in the tailgate

Yes they did put in UV but no they didnt pressure test the system

that sounds like a kwik fit way of doing things, does the UV give you an idea of the source of a leak

thanks for the repsonses guys

I have checked all the bulbs and the high level brake light which is a strip of LEDs rather than bulbs, will go around again and check/clean all the contacts in the bulb holders

« on: 10 August 2011, 05:56:57 PM »

Every time I start my car ('99 9-5 Aero Estate) the SID is telling me I have a rear light failure - I do not have a rear light failure, all of the rear and brake lights are working perfectly well so why the message ? Punching clear to remove the message is fine but concerned that something electrical is starting to go bad.

Any thoughts ?

do kwik fit add the UV indicator to the gas ? Should help in locating a leak if they do, also I think they should pressure test the system before they re-gas did they give you the print out from their kit ?
