It's often the short pipe from the twin connector on the inlet manifold to the fuel pressure regulator on the back of the engine.  It's very hot in there...

Apparently it's a "Throttle position sensor fault". They priced me a fitted throttle body at £440. That's a very significant portion of the value of the car. :(

With not a lot of looking, I've found a new throttle body for £94 less. Can get a used one for £72....

Get a refurb from ECU Testing. They have a good reputation. I think they are fairly near you.

Managed to source a brand new Saab part for almost half the price the Saab indie quoted me this morning. I'll find out if this was a good deal or not if the part actually arrives at the end of this week  :o ???

I'd have checked which version of the Trionic 7 software is on the ECU, there is a fault with some versions of the T7 for the 9-3 where it will throw up a throttle body fault when the throttle body is slightly worn or dirty, the fix is to update the T7 software.

My new throttle body has arrived - going to get it fitted on Monday. Have gone for a brand new Saab part rather than a second hand part. I'll report back on if this makes any noticeable difference.

any difference ? i would think from what you have been saying that its a bad earth somewhere, or even moisture in the wiring... ???
SAAB is a SAAB, wether it be a GM, Lancia/Fiat or a V4 with a Ford Taunus engine in it, SAAB.

It is as good now as i'ts ever been with its time with me, though it was never a better starter than my previous 9-3. It has definitely improved, though as it's behaving, it's not worth throwing any more money to get it perfect at it at the moment. Basically, it always starts first time now, but takes a little longer to fire than the previous 9-3.
