French autoroute toll tag problem...
« on: 10 June 2021, 01:05:24 PM »
We have a French autoroute toll tag that lets you drive through the automatic toll barriers without stopping.  We have had it for years, around 25...

It works by automatically billing you and then you pay by direct debit.  We bought it in France and it's worked all the time since.

Now we find that we can no longer maintain the direct debit with a French company from a UK bank account, and they require a DD for payment.  You can transfer money when billed with no admin charge, but it seems this has to be on a bill by bill basis.  A direct debit no longer works.  Seems to be a "Brexit bonus" :(

Good spot Will. I also have the Sanef tag (and therefore a DD with them) and didn't know this. What a pain.

The current cost is €20 refundable for the tag device.  Then you pay the toll cost and a €2 admin fee for each month that you get a bill.

The only way now is to go via the UK company that manages the French/Spanish/Italian tags and bills you in this country.  But the cost is a lot higher.  Another "rip-off Britain" event.

If we get it, the new cost is:

€10 "One-off" introduction fee.
€20 Refundable deposit for the tag (as before).
€8 annual charge.
The cost of the tolls, as before.
€5 admin fee for each month that you get a bill.

This doesn't actually state what the problem is:  https://www.emovis-tag.co.uk/operation-Existing.SanefFR.Customers

This is the new charge schedule: https://www.emovis-tag.co.uk/subscription/
