RIP Erik Carlsson- Mr Saab
« on: 27 May 2015, 10:20:04 PM »
It is with great sadness that we have learnt that Erik Carlsson passed away today. Our thoughts are with his family and friends.

Those of you who have been fortunate enough to meet him will know what a wonderful character and fantastic ambassador for Saab he was. He will be greatly missed by the Saab community around the world.

I was fortunate to meet Erik several times.  He was a lovely chap.  He will be missed by many in the world of Saab.

Here he is at Duxford.

Sad news indeed. I'm sure I remember reading somewhere that he was married to Stirling Moss's sister Pat.

Yes, from 1963 till her death in 2008. They co-wrote The Art and Technique of Driving (1965).

Yes, from 1963 till her death in 1908. They co-wrote The Art and Technique of Driving (1965).

So she travelled backwards in time!  I also recollect that she was a top class show jumper.

Very sad indeed.
I never had the pleasure of meeting him in person but loved to see him on various tv shows talking about the good old days  :)

A fantastic day and tribute to a great man, and I feel really privileged to have been part of it. Over 270 people at the service.

Here's the 96 salute leaving the church:

Much better photos than mine!

It was a great day and almost everyone from the world of Saab was there.

I was proud to be able to drive in the convoy, even though the farmer in the white 4x4 got in the way.  Turns out he was trying to get there ahead of us to unlock the gate to the field!! :)

The slight delay with the 4th car in the convoy was because at the last minute Sir Stirling Moss asked to ride shotgun in one of the cars  8)

And, as it has now been cleared by the family, I can post a link to the summary of the day. The tracks are those chosen for the service

A great loss of a great man. Mr. Saab's unfortunate passing will surely impact the saab community around the world. I actually have a signed copy of the book The Art and Technique of Driving where he was nicknamed Carlsson på taket.
