Wow, that sounds like a real resounding appreciation of Saab for once! Well worth watching.

Classic Saab 9-5 (MY 1998-2010) / Neo brothers fuel pump kits
« on: 04 March 2015, 07:00:51 PM »
Has anyone ever ordered one of these kits for £65? I think the fuel pump on my 9-5 might be getting past it so I was thinking about one of these kits to keep spare in the boot to assist in the event of a failure but if they don't last I'll wait for it to die and get the real thing.

Saab vs. McLaren

I'd say the Saab was the winner!  ;)

Wow, what a sucky job, it has to be done by feel without being able to see what you're doing. So far I've taken 30 minutes trying to get to the hidden screw so far and it's been turning but showing no sign of actually winding all the way out.

I had to put the car back together as I have some other things to do today but does anyone have any suggestions for how to make it easier to remove short of lifting the dash out?

Classic Saab 9-5 (MY 1998-2010) / Decent quality pcv check valve.
« on: 30 September 2014, 05:15:39 PM »
So, the minor oil leak on my car has turned into the entire thing being soaked in oil and dripping onto the driveway. I checked the pcv today and it's knackered about 40k after being fitted. Does anyone know of any decent quality replacements? I've ordered one from Neo as I need to use the car soon but given the age of my car the fewer problems I can have the better so if I can spend a few quid more on something that won't randomly die on me I'd be happier.

Time to replace the wiper blades on my 9-5. What to get and where from?

It seems people are either selling cheap rubbish or want comedy prices for quality products (over £40 for wiper blades... hahahaha).

Suggestions please.  ;D

I was looking something up today and noticed that on this day in 1947 the first Saab prototype was shown to the press: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ursaab

I note we have a winter tyres review thread but we don't have one for summer tyres, should we start one?

The reason I say this is the other day I filled the 9-5 (2.0t auto estate) with petrol and got 70l into it but noted that I'd only done ~360 miles since the previous fill up. At first I suspected that the petrol pump I used was not calibrated properly as I'd have only expected to put in slightly more than 60l after that distance, while I was looking for the contact details for local trading standards to report the pump I then realised that between filling up this time and the previous time I'd put the summer tyres back on. Of course I also noted that fuel economy apparently went up last year when I put the winter tyres on. So last night on the way home from work I reset the trip computer and did a "standard" journey and sure enough the economy is down by ~10%.

So, it seems that the Falken Ziex ZE-914 that I have on my 9-5 decrease fuel economy a significant amount compared to the Nokian WR G2 winter tyres that I did have fitted! They also seem to be wearing out more quickly than using the winter tyres all year around too so this is a big thumbs down from me for the Falkens!

The only upside for all this is that the company I work for is moving office so I won't have to drive to work any more as I can walk or cycle so I won't be paying for fuel used in commuting which should save me around £100 a month.

Classic Saab 9-5 (MY 1998-2010) / Starting failure problem
« on: 23 December 2013, 11:24:32 PM »
This morning I was running late for work and went out the 9-5 2.0t. I started it and it took a couple of seconds (although had not been driven since Friday) and it started and then almost immediately died after firing, possibly before the key was back in the on position. I then tried to restart it and it was in a no-start situation just turning over. ::) I had a quick look under the bonnet and then tried cranking again and it slowly burst into life with it nearly firing a few times and then it got better and suddenly caught and ran perfectly OK for a trip to work and back home again this evening. It was one of those situations that by the time I'd taken stock the situation was resolved and there's no fault codes stored.

My guess is that the fuel pump or even more likely the fuel pressure regulator has failed/is faulty. Any more suggestions? I'm at around 155k (miles). I can get a new genuine regulator for a tenner+postage which is my current plan just in case but is there anything I've overlooked?

Hi chaps.

I managed to get a NIP yesterday  >:( which is very annoying as I can clearly remember where and when I was clocked (bike copper with a handheld) as I commented to my partner at the time that the copper wouldn't have much luck that day ::) because I was within the limit. Unfortunately it turns out I was in an area that had a temporary speed restriction (there were some roadworks a mile after the speed trap and I suspect this road has had a period of rolling improvements) and It was the day after the recent storm so I *suspect* that if there were any signs they may have been blown over, badly positioned, stolen for scrap and that I simply didn't miss them. Of course as I have no way of proving this so I'm going to have to take the points or a speed awareness course.

Anyway, because of this speeding incident (where if I did miss something I'd love to review footage and know) and that over the past few weeks I've had a couple of near misses recently with some shockingly bad driving on local roads so I'm tempted to get myself an in car camera, does anyone have any recommendation or suggestion for what to get or some experience of any particular device? I'm currently looking at [url][http://www.smartwitness.co.uk/product/787/svc150gps/url] but for a package that would cost just over £300 is a bit much.

So, we're getting towards winter tyre season again so I'm looking at my winter wheels and tyres, I have 4 Nokian WR-G2 in the shed which have a shade over 4mm tread left on 2 and 6mm on the other 2 which I will fit on my 9-5 estate so I have a bit of a dilemma, do I:

A: Buy 2 new tyres and replace both those at 4mm and put winter tyres on in the next 2 weeks. (seems expensive!)
B: Fit the tyres with 6mm to the front and accept that the car will have worst grip at the back (not so good in nasty conditions!) and that I will need 4 new winter tyres come next year.
C: Don't wait until the weather gets bad (i.e. fit winter tyres at end of this month) and fit the set with 4mm to the front and 6mm to the rear and buy 2 new winter tyres when the fronts are gone and then rotate the rears to the front and put new on the back, of course this will probably be the point that winter tyres will have become unavailable.
D: Wait until the weather actually requires winter tyres and then fit the set with 4mm to the front (and live with the fact these are about to not be winter tyres any more) and 6mm to the rear and buy 2 new winter tyres next year.
E: Buy 2 new winter tyres without fitting and put them in the shed for when I need them.

I figure that I will have to cover approx 3000-4000 miles between the end of this month and the end of March, I could afford some new decent (Nokian) winter tyres but I really don't want to stretch to buying them right now as the washing machine is making funny noises and the cooker sometimes refuses to light so I can see expensive times ahead.  ::)

So today I went to try and put the Saris solo bike carrier on my 9-5 estate only to find it doesn't fit   :-[

Anyhow, I now need some other carrier, I might want something that can take 2 kids bikes and 2 adult bikes but really, something that will take just 2 adult bikes will do for now, I was thinking about getting a Thule towbar 2 bike carrier for about £125 (my car has a genuine Saab fixed towbar kit) but wondered does anyone have experience of other carriers I might want to consider?

I'd also like something I can use with future cars some of which may not be a Saab!  :o
