Classic Saab 9-5 (MY 1998-2010) / Re: Alarm Siren
« on: 10 September 2018, 08:52:25 PM »
just had this same issue, if you dremel or saw the alarm apart you will get access to the circuit board, buy a kit from ebay and de-solder the three capacitors that the instructions advise, re-solder the way the instructions say and then either glue it together or use some kind of sealant, check the batteries with a voltmeter as you may find that they are above 3.0volts, so no real point in changing them. kit is here   https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Saab-93-9-3-95-9-5-Twice-Alarm-Siren-Repair-Kit-New-Batteries-Dated-04-18/121587966806?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649

alarm is in the nearside wheel arch, under the liner toward the front of the car, its a 10mm bolt and a 10mm nut to remove it, wheel off and 8mm socket to remove the arch liner, one 10mm plastic lug at the very top

and i have no idea why it did as the part i've listed is not usually associated with the error, but i changed it for another i had lying around and i have had no problems since...

3
its not the timing side engine mount broken and the noise reverberating to the left ?

5266663 was what cured the locking problem for me

5
just been told it could also be the MAF meter

6
i had this on an og93, in my case it was a cracked spark plug, but i have been told that it could be one of the sensors in the exhaust... not sure which one though

7
haven't got the car back yet because it isn't ready, but have ordered a pipercross element and the later intake feed pipe that goes from the grille to the air filterbox, will also have an abbott intake pipe, this should feed the air system a bit better

Classic Saab 9-5 (MY 1998-2010) / Re: Replacement turbos

if you do decide to go the cheap chinese route, i.e. £170 inc delivery, then do not expect the turbo to last more than a year and do not put it on a tuned car. i fitted a 19t from ebay to a car in the past, was absolutely fine under town driving conditions, can't fault it there, but put any amount of power into it and yes, it will cope, for about three months if used aggressivley. they are not the same build quality of a genuine article, hence why they are so damn cheap. imo of course. i am running a chinese core on my 2.2 9-5 and so far it has been brilliant, 25,000 miles in 6 months, no extra smoke, no loss of boost. i think it all depends on what level you are going to use it.

or something similar to this, there are more robust looking ones i would imagine, think they have 3m tape on the underside

thats kinda what i heard about the map, still, will be good to have a play, just make sure the road in front of me is deserted :)

11
are the locks not double locked when it is locked ? i.e. deadlocked ? which would explain the difficulty getting in when the battery is flat ? seeing as we all only ever use the remote it does seem that the locking mechanisms/cylinders can get stiff through lack of use over time

12
yeah i did here that about the remaps, but its having a turbo and exhaust and some other bits done while its in for some bodywork so it will initially be tuned by them, karl will be my next stop after returning home with it, i will go easy on the way home will ;) thanks for the input, may well look into a foam filter in the standard housing. always gone aftermarket on the og93's ive owned , just wondered if the 9-5 was a different kettle of fish with the air filter housing and cold air feed being slightly different

13
i'm in the process of having my 9-5 overhauled and going for an Abbott upgrade this time, my question is this.... upto around 270/290 bhp is the standard air filter good enough or do i really need a performance type ? in the past, as a young lad, it was always the done thing to whack a big filter on and drill holes in the exhaust and so on, but is it worth it ?

14
any difference ? i would think from what you have been saying that its a bad earth somewhere, or even moisture in the wiring... ???

No joy whatsoever, radio connections are all fine, puzzled to say the least
