Good to hear there are 9000's still going strong. Fairly rare on the roads now.

Yes I remarked on that to the missus on the road the other day. I used to see a lot round our way but they've really noticeable declined in the last couple of years. Alas.

204,000+ and still going well.

Keep thinking we should change it for a newer car but there is not a lot out there that ticks all the 9k boxes.
Yes they do seem to be getting quite rare - very few at Swedish Day this year - so I guess prices will start creeping up again.
Did SAAB ever make a a better engineered car?

Did anyone spot the
99 at 2 min 28 seconds
and the 9000 at
45 minutes 35 seconds
in the BBC 'Routemaster' programme?

I think that we are at "that stage" in the history of the 9000.  I needed an air con hose the other day, so I called the usual breakers.  Most gave me the same comment: "haven't had a 9000 in for a while".  So I think that those owners with weak moral fibre have scrapped them in the last couple of years, but those of us made of sterner stuff (or with an inability to chose a suitable replacement) are keeping them, and so the supply of second hand parts is drying up.  This is not helped by the profiteering nature of Saab.  The air con hose was available from Saab for about £100, but only on a VOR order, which cost £42.  Now to me, a VOR order should be here tomorrow, but no, this would take 3 days.  In others words it was a standard order with a £42 surcharge.  Fortunately I found a second hand part eventually.

That's strange, VOR (Vehicle Off Road) always meant that you got the part next day (although that did change to 3 days after Saab went under and if the part wasn't in stock in the UK) but what it meant was that you as the supplier no longer got a discount on the parts. Service parts would typically give you a discount of around 50% (from retail) and other parts you'd get around a 15% discount (from retail) but ordering as VOR removed that discount so as the supplier you'd pay the same as list price.

I used to see a few around Oxford way until the last couple of years ago.  My 1993 9000 has 155000 on the clock.  I had, until last month, a 1996 with 230000 on the clock, but I've stripped it for parts and scrapped the remainder as I don't have the time to rebuild the engine that was blown when I bought it.

Sadly, these are starting to succumb to rust issues, despite the high build quality and they're getting rarer by the year.  I checked on howmanyleft.co.uk, for mine and there are now only 4 left in the UK of that type and year which makes it rarer than something like an Austin 7 by quite a long way.
