List of parts suppliers
« on: 01 December 2014, 12:28:10 PM »
I have only just learned, from reading another post, that our old chum BillJ is now running a parts business called Saabits.com.  I struck me that it might be useful to have a comprehensive list of parts sources for both new and second hand parts kept as a sticky.

So if a moderator could make this a sticky and if people could add to the list that would be very useful.

Thanks.

Is it worth adding Car Parts Connexion to see if any new bits are floating round at bargain price. I've had a couple of things via them as massive savings on RRP

I've used it many times to source parts, can be a bit hit and miss on stock as you're dealing with individual dealers.

Among the places I use for genuine Saab parts are

http://saabpartsdirect.co.uk     Euro Saab Parts Direct.  Peter is very knowledgeable and helpful.
http://stores.ebay.co.uk/thgparts/    The eBay shop of Turners Hill Garage, former Saab dealer, who trade as "thgparts" on eBay.
http://stores.ebay.co.uk/saabtechpartseuropeltd/  The eBay shop of SaabTech, Welwyn Garden City

Belsyre Garage used to be the Saab main dealer - Oxford Saab - so they should know what that are talking about.

Their website says they were the official Saab franchise for 25 years.....?

There were several changes in the 1980's when GM tried to rationalise the dealerships.  Some of the original dealers wouldn't or couldn't go along with the investment that was required in standardisation "bling".

That's right - Belsyre held the franchise before Ox Saab was set up at Cumnor.

Belsyre are fairly knowledgeable, but expensive. They won't fit parts they haven't supplied, which isn't generally true of indies.

That's pretty much the case for all dealers, I'd say it's about 50/50 with independents and you should always ask first. I never liked fitting (and in some cases would refuse to fit) customer supplied parts as very often people would want to supply the cheapest part they could find, this would very often lead to problems as the cheapest parts are pretty much always the ones that will give problems either immediately after or in the first few months, people would then expect free labour to replace the part again.

Hi all,

as this thread hasn't been updated for a while, I was wondering if all the Saab parts suppliers still exist?

Things like the ignition on the centre console of 9-5s and 9-3s, or the 9-3 keys/fobs, or SiDs/climate control displays, DI cassettes, clutches, exhausts, shock absorbers, timing chain kits etc etc.

Are these sorts of things readily available still?

I guess that someone might want to review the list of suppliers and remove any that are out of date, however as far as I'm aware most parts are still available for later cars (say 2000 onwards), some of the earlier stuff is now harder to get but the parts situation overall seems better than it was in 2011 when many parts were just completely unavailable. I don't know quite what the situation is for the NG9-5 as so few of those were sold but in some ways that may point to better parts availability for some stuff as so many cars were not built that there must have been stock ready to go into those cars. I guess that depends on how "just in time" some of those parts were.
