Off-topic chat, Help, Advice, General motoring issues / Puncture repair
« on: 19 February 2014, 08:20:04 AM »
Had a couple recently, and local garage has repaired them for a fiver a time. I know that's very cheap, but I was taken aback the other day when in a trip I had no option but to get a slow puncture repaired at kwik fit.

£24.50!

£11.50 for repair. Fair enough

£4.75. Not sure why as old one practically new and no reason to believe a fault. And these must be about 10p wholesale....

£6.75 for a balance. Fair enough.

Then the real scam on top. £1.50 to pump up with nitrogen rather than air (also mainly nitrogen iirc....)

Oh, plus vat.

I should really start carrying a full size spare. As j always have 8 summer or winter wheels in the garage this should not be a challenge....

And it took the an hour and a half.....

Classic Saab 9-5 (MY 1998-2010) / Creak turning right
« on: 28 January 2014, 05:58:55 AM »
2009 9-5 estate manual diesel on 103k. Often but not always on steady speed right turn such as a roundabout creak seems to be coming from front right (ie the wheel that's off load). Not always though. Any pointers? Bush of some sort?

Thanks

Classic Saab 9-5 (MY 1998-2010) / Dash lights slow to clear on start up
« on: 07 January 2014, 11:58:14 AM »
2009 1.9tid manual. 102k miles. On starting, it takes a second or two for the warning lights to extinguish, particularly the abs and tc ones. Also rev counter at zero for a second before flipping up to actual revs. Used to happen immediately.

Sign of impending doom?

Classic Saab 9-5 (MY 1998-2010) / Properly Bizarre......
« on: 26 September 2013, 07:34:27 AM »
My Parrot Bluetooth kit started playing up - it would go on when I started the car but sometimes shut down completely a couple of minutes later, but not always. Dead - like it's getting no power at all. I thought it might be a fault with the unit itself, until I realised that if I stopped the car and went into reverse it came on again.....

Coincidence you'd think, but always happened. This morning on the motorway it turned off, so I lifted the little lever on top of the gearstick whilst in 5th, pulled the gearstick into neutral whilst applying a little rightward pressure, and the Bluetooth came on again........

Any explanation for this, or is it a poltergeist? I'm wondering if it's the reverse/ignition switch lock playing up somehow?

Wooooh......

Classic Saab 9-5 (MY 1998-2010) / P1901 2009 tid. Ongoing problem
« on: 08 September 2013, 09:26:34 AM »
Ref earlier posts I'm reading p1901 fault. Exhaust gas pressure. Usually a blocked dpf but mines removed. Thought it was reprogramming fault, but its been redone. Still writing fault. Anyone able to tell me where the sensor is located? Is it on the dpf itself, or elsewhere with a fees from the dpf section? Vauxhalls seem to have a sensor in the engine bay with 2 rubber hoses feeding it??

Thanks!!

PS ill get a petrol next time....

Classic Saab 9-5 (MY 1998-2010) / Very annoying noise
« on: 28 August 2013, 06:34:51 PM »
2006 9-5 estate auto with 102k on the clock.

Very annoying rattle from rear. Local garage had quick look but couldn't find source. Going innext week for a better look.

Sounds a bit like the noise an exhaust does when baffles gone and you shake it, but its definitely not that.

Any ideas?

Many thanks!

Classic Saab 9-5 (MY 1998-2010) / OBD Code Readers - 9-5
« on: 11 July 2013, 04:59:19 PM »
I have a basic code reader that seems to pick up any of the generic codes and some SAAB specific ones. Is it possible/likely that there are a range of secret SAAB codes that it won't get? If so, I presume I'd then need Tech II to read them?

Thanks!

I'm getting this error code. Car driving fine - no problems. Anyone know if this means it's reading out of range, or does it meant that the circuit itself is faulty?

can you point me to where the sensor is? Is it "engine end" or at the cat/dpf?

Thanks in advance!

J

I've got a faulty sensor that's intermittently telling me I have water in fuel even though I haven't. 2009 1.9 tid. Anyone know whether, if I just remove rather than replace it, this will throw up an error code and cel?

Many thanks

Classic Saab 9-5 (MY 1998-2010) / High oil consumption
« on: 16 June 2013, 11:08:43 AM »
Been having to put some oil in my wife's 2006 2.3t auto recently. Used about a litre in 8k. Previously never needed any between services and we've had the car from a year old and 12k. Done 99k now.

Exhaust seems clean. Top of engine clean and nothing obvious underneath. Any suggestions, or just getting old?

Thanks

Classic Saab 9-5 (MY 1998-2010) / Bonnet Badge - 95
« on: 14 June 2013, 07:09:01 PM »
Anyone know how to remove it? Double skinned underneath so can't see how it's fixed?  Thanks!

Anyone had their rear windows tinted? I'm thinking about getting my 9-5 estate done, but not entirely sure. Would welcome any thoughts from anyone whose done it, or indeed anyone who thinks its a bad idea.

Seems a good idea for holiday in France to reduce glare on the kids DVD screens, make the stuff we leave in car when parked up less obvious and likewise for fully packed boot. I know it won't be invisible but at least not too much of an advert.

Thinking about 20% tints.

Also not sure how well film blends to the black surround on the rear windows?

Thanks

Classic Saab 9-5 (MY 1998-2010) / Turbo Hose Popped Off
« on: 25 April 2013, 11:21:40 AM »
The hose popped off the end of the turbo when booting it a bit along a back road.....

2009 9-5 estate 1.9TiD.

Big pop then no boost - thought I'd brokn the turbo!

Easy fix - just reconnected.

I've got the CEL/EML on. How do I reset without paying the dealer.... Is it just battery disconnect?

Thanks!
