I had the 64 bit versions of WIS & EPC installed on my PC but since having had a complete re-install of Windows 10 done by a local computer chap I have only been able to re-install WIS and that always opens in Swedish but I'm sure I was able to save the change to English before.  Also EPC will not install and I get an error message 'epc-2010-4mdb' will not load due to having been created in a previous version which I assume means a previous version of Access.

The 64 bit versions of both WIS & EPC were downloaded from this forum back in 2016. Can any computer experts offer any help?

Classic Saab 9-5 (MY 1998-2010) / END OF THE ROAD
« on: 16 June 2019, 10:24:03 AM »
The time has come for my 9-5 2.2 TiD to go.  It has 189k on the clock, is coming up for an MOT - last years had a long list of advisories - corroded brake pipes, corrosion on rear suspension arms, corrosion in real wheel arch near seat belt mounting.  That's apart from it never having had a clutch, new shock absorbers, sub frame bushes, anti-roll bar bushes, drop links and the like in my ownership (12 years and bought at 88k miles).  Apart from that there is the SID 1 with most of the pixels missing and the alarm not working both having been repaired by an idiot in Gloucestershire who doesn't honour his life time warranty!  Have had recent problems with an intermittent EML, air conditioning not working and a replacement tailgate lock which has never functioned properly.!

Living in North Devon it is a 100 mile + round trip to a Saab specialist and no-one around here has Tech 2 I have decided to scrap it on the principle that it is uneconomic to repair.

SWMBO and I have enjoyed the car immensely, it is her daily drive and wonderful on a long run but I don't have the time, room or inclination at the age of 72 (at end of month) to work on it myself as I still have my own small business.  We are going to use my Astra G for longer trips (109k on the clock) and buy a smaller petrol engine car for SWMBO as a daily drive.

I would like to thank everyone who has helped me with advice for the last 12 years and hope that your Saabs continue to give you motoring enjoyment.

I have lots of spares collected over the years and will put the up for sale on here when I have sorted through them.

Classic Saab 9-5 (MY 1998-2010) / HEATER BLOWER FAN NOT WORKING
« on: 10 April 2019, 06:46:44 PM »
My other half decided she needed a little warmth on the way to work this morning so she put the ACC on. Got heat but the blower fan isn't working even though the display shows the increase in speed as you press the fan speed button. Have done the fault code check by pressing AUTO and OFF but all that shows is 0 on the left hand side, blank on the right hand side.

So blower fan died or the control unit/resistor?

Please bear in mind I have no knowledge of auto electrics or any way of testing them and the nearest Saab specialist is over a 100 mile round trip away.

Classic Saab 9-5 (MY 1998-2010) / Mysterious noise
« on: 03 February 2019, 05:42:02 PM »
Had slow starting problems recently which seem to have resolved themselves after having the EML light come on a few times. BUT - went out on Friday evening and after about 10 minutes the engine started to run roughly so turned round to go home and changed to our other car and it ran fine. Didn't use it on Saturday and started it up this afternoon. There is a rustling/crackling sound coming from the offside of the engine. The drive belt and tensioner was replaced in 2013 - done about 46k miles since, the alternator was replaced in January 2017, and the crankshaft pulley was replaced in May 2017 at 175k miles. Any ideas as to what the noise could be?

What size o-rings do you need to for the washer pump connectors?

Euro Car Parts have this code reader on offer.  Anyone got one and is it worth spending £14.99 on?

Classic Saab 9-5 (MY 1998-2010) / STRANGE INTERIOR LIGHT BEHAVIOUR
« on: 07 November 2018, 06:31:14 PM »
Recently replaced the tailgate lock mechanism due to having damaged the micro switch trying to un-jam the lock.  When I replaced the leads to the tailgate corner lights I fitted them incorrectly and the rear roof light and tailgate lights came on when I turned off the ignition and also the tailgate lock would lock and unlock itself immediately.  Have now got the tailgate light leads fitted correctly and everything has been fine for a couple of weeks but on going out tonight to the village shop in the pouring rain the rear roof light, tailgate lights, dashboard door/tailgate open light and tailgate lock are working intermittently. On getting back home I pressed the tailgate unlocking button on the door and the interior lights went out. On locking the car they came on again and it took a couple of attempts to lock the car with the rear interior light and tailgate lights out.  Any ideas?

Classic Saab 9-5 (MY 1998-2010) / DRIVER'S DOOR SEAL
« on: 06 August 2018, 05:41:40 PM »
The rubber door sealing strip - part no. 4698411 - that is fitted to the driver's door aperture is starting to disintegrate and I have purchased a new genuine Saab one.

Is it a difficult job to fit - the WIS doesn't deal with removing it or fitting a new one so I assume that it's a case of pulling the old one off, cleaning any muck off the door frame, cutting the new one to the same length as the old one and fitting it in place....anyone done this on their car and can warn me of any possible pitfalls?

Classic Saab 9-5 (MY 1998-2010) / WATER IN INDICATOR LAMP
« on: 19 May 2018, 09:48:18 AM »
The nearside indicator lamp has started to let water in.  I have found a 'YouTube' clip with a Ford Ranger having the same problem with a headlamp unit. The fix was to remove the headlamp unit, completely fill it with water and then blow into the hole where the bulb fits to pressurize it so the water spurts out of where the water is getting in, dry it thoroughly and then seal with clear silicone.  Will this work for the 9-5 indicator lamp?

Classic Saab 9-5 (MY 1998-2010) / STRANGE HEADLIGHT BEHAVIOUR
« on: 11 December 2017, 12:55:09 PM »
When locking the car the headlights stay on for a couple on minutes, day time or night time. SWMBO who drives the car to work everyday tells me that it only happens in the winter. I have questioned her about setting the 'follow me home' function and she assures me that she doesn't.

Faulty headlamp relay or earth?

Classic Saab 9-5 (MY 1998-2010) / SQUEAKY CLUTCH PEDAL
« on: 06 December 2017, 07:03:42 AM »
When I depress and release the clutch pedal on my 9-5 there is a squeak. Where is the best place to spray WD40 to try to eliminate it?

Had the SID1 repaired by Sidmaster in Gloucestershire in May last year and apart from him taking over a week to return it it has been losing pixels again recently, there is a now a permanent missing vertical line through the first letter of the month, sometimes the second number of the minute display disappears completely and on a recent trip up north after an hour (about 40 miles) the whole display disappeared but it did come back.

He offers a lifetime guarantee as long as the car is in your ownership but he has not replied to my email of three weeks ago.

Anybody else had similar problems with him? As far as I can see I have three options, small claims court, trading standards or cut my losses and send it to the chap in Wales - but he only offers a 2 year guarantee. there is another company based in Waltham Abbey/Clapton who offer a lifetime guarantee but I have not come across them before - anyone with any experience of them?

Classic Saab 9-5 (MY 1998-2010) / INTERIOR TEMPERATURE SENSOR
« on: 16 June 2017, 08:21:46 AM »
Does anybody know what the grey coating is on the interior temperature sensor that is in the housing for the front courtesy light?

Mine is fine but I have just bought a second hand housing as the little grille cover on the one in my car is broken (due to someone not being careful when adjusting the mirror), and the interior temperature sensor has some of the coating worn away and I was wondering if it is possible to touch up the coating so I can keep it as a spare?
I have just checked the sensor in my car and there is no coating on it!

Classic Saab 9-5 (MY 1998-2010) / DOOR MIRROR IDENTIFICATION
« on: 10 April 2017, 07:43:33 PM »
Rather than try to remove the passenger door mirror from our car and refurbish it I have decided to buy a secondhand one from that well known internet auction site, and refurbish in my own time it so I am not under pressure from SWMBO! Now I am fully aware that this is full of pitfalls, not the least being the inability of many of the sellers on ebay to accurately describe what they are selling. I can identify what year the mirrors fit but some of the sellers mention 5-pin connectors and the electrical diagram in WIS for the correct mirror for our car (2003 MY Linear- electrically heated , manual folding, no memory) only shows 3 wires going to the connector!

Is there any simple way to identify the correct mirror from a photograph?
