Headlamp mountings
« on: 02 October 2013, 11:09:44 AM »
Has anyone successfully repaired the top headlamp mountings or is it a case of trying to find a pair that haven't been b******d by a heavy handed greasy spanner?

Should be a washer under the screw too.  Put some washers under there and the crack might close up.

I've seen them repaired with glue before, just make sure you get the right kind of plastics glue.

Hopefully the mountings will be marked with the type of plastic they are made from.

Rather than try and glue the plastic bits together, I would look to glue a washer over it all. The biggest washer that will fit.  That will give much more surface area for the adhesive to act on and the load would be taken in shear in the glue rather than on a small bit of plastic in tension.

You could get them plastic welded. But that is the most expensive option. Sgould's suggestion of a large washer is the way to go, covering it up entirely. Glue-ing the washer would work with a slow set epoxy. I think nearly every 9-5 would have this issue too. underneath the hole there is no real support for the bracket, so it will happen again if you don't remedy that side of things.
Is the headlamp loose in its cavity? If not then is is really only cosmetic and only you know. Apart from everyone on this forum....
