Thanks. Mirror now fitted.
If anyone asks in the future.
There are two metal clips, one each side where the join makes it look like there are two pieces to remove, (you can see one on the bottom edge in the second picture ) a thin flat probe pushed in releases the clip and the panel will pull off.

I've got a new mirror so just need to fit it.
The cover looks to be in two pieces, one with the interior light / switches that covers the mirror mounting point and one with the motion sensors.
So that I don't break anything by levering at the wrong bit how do I remove them ?

The silvering on the current one is failing, caused I think by the same thing that caused the seat belt warnings I had.
A blocked drain (elephants trunk) allowed water to enter via the pollen filter housing, I didn't notice it until a heavy storm left 3 inches of water in the passenger footwell. It's amazing how much water you can get in before you notice it when it's parked facing uphill lol.
I don't have auto dimming so might consider the upgrade.

      Thanks  Alan

Thanks collywobble.
Are the up to 2006 saloon / estate mirrors the same part numbers.

I need a new interior mirror for my 2007 vert.

Looking on ebay there seems to be several types depending on the year. As mine is a 2007 with the face lift interior I assume I need the 2006/7 and later one but they are listed as suitable for a saloon and or estate with no mention of convertible.

Does anyone know if they are all the same or have a part number for a vert interior mirror.

Thanks  Alan

I did the gear turret on mine and it is very easy, one hour with a break for a cuppa. I used the kit from i6 automotive.

It does sound like the haldex.
On the Freelander 1 a sign that the VCU was failing was a rear wheel skipping when you reversed on lock as it wouldn't let the front and rear axles turn at a different speed. ( VCU is a viscous coupling that would allow front and rear axles to turn at a slightly different speed but locked up if the difference became too high and was replaced by the haldex on the Freelander 2 ).
As the haldex uses fluid pressure to lock the drive to the rear wheels a leaking valve can cause your problem. On the Freelander 2  the haldex can be disabled by pulling the pump fuse leaving you with just front wheel drive.

As Sasol are a fuel company do you think they would publish anything other than that.
One thing that makes me think they have used the best figures in the tests for their diesel and the worst figures when 2SO is added is the amount of zinc they claim to have found.
Their diesel has no zinc, they add 2SO containing 16ppm of zinc at a ratio of 200:1 so should end up with fuel containing 0.08ppm but claim there is up to three times that amount.

Had similar with mine last year. Code was for EGR valve but the actual problem was a clogged inlet manifold.
AA man poked around after taking EGR valve off and it was running ok.
I don't know if it was related to all the crud in the manifold being loosened but a couple of days later I had to take it in for a manual regen of the DPF.
It had been smoking when regenning for a while but after the manual regen and a dose of Saab branded snake oil it has stopped smoking.
There is a long post on the use of 2 stroke oil on the freelander 2 forum, benefits claimed include greater distance between regens, cleaner EGR / inlet manifold, quieter engine and better MPG.
I've not used it in my Saab but we are using it in the wifes freelander (non DPF engine). I can't say it is any quieter and have no idea if the EGR is any cleaner but it has gone from 35mpg to 41mpg.

Went out again and this time no problems. I have AA repair cover but I need to have called them out to it before it goes to the garage for them to cover any repair costs.
I'll see what happens tomorrow I've got an 8 mile run on my own then 20 miles with a passenger, if having a passenger stops the warnings for any length of time it could be a problem because they would want to see it while the warnings are there and I won't have time to take it out on my own and wait for them to come and check it before next week.

Update.  Went to pick wife up, about 1 mile each way.
 Start up no warnings,
50 yds Air bag light on, 50 yds more and it goes off.
500yds from destination Passenger seatbelt light is on, 50 yds and it goes off.
Pulling into car park get air bag followed straight away by passenger seatbelt before I can park up both go off.
Parked up waiting with engine ticking over for 5 minutes and no warnings.
Wife gets in, drive home no warnings.
Could it be a fault with the passenger seat sensors ???

After a period with no problems I went out today and have the warnings popping up. I have had the airbag malfunction warning before ( about 4 times in the last 2 years ) but only on cold winter mornings, the warning light would stay on. I noticed that if I waited until car started to get warm then restarted engine all would be fine.

Today bing bong airbag malfunction contact service airbag warning light on. 30 seconds later bing bong fasten seatbelt, seatbelt 2 ( passenger ? ) warning light on. another 30 seconds or so and airbag warning light goes off, a little later and seatbelt warning goes off.
Then it starts again with the warnings coming on and going off, while the seatbelt 2 warning is on it may or may not be joined by a continuous bong bong bong ( drivers seatbelt warning ? ).

There was anything from 10 seconds to 2 minutes with no warnings on but when they start it was always the airbag warning that came up first.

I've done a search for this but they all have the warning lights on all the time not coming on then going off like mine.

Is there anything I can check before it goes to the local Saab indi. What sort of costs am I in for if parts need replacing.

It should be possible because I saw one at the Yorkshire show some years ago that did it. It was on a dealer stand ( Robert Bowett ?? ).
Salesman said you couldn't buy one like that as it was only done to demonstrate the roof.

I fitted Vectra ones to my vert. £7 each from the dealer.
