I think the cutting out was a reference to cutting the dash up to get access to the fan switches. Not a lot of point doing that if the wiring isn't present in the recipient car

They do look to be better quality leather, I never knew the vented seat option gave the non insert seats in the DE, almost like the none DE spec

I don't think that the DE panel can be cut up.  You need the alternative one with the switches in place.

Some further disassembly & investigation today - looks like you were correct

The A/C control panel is a one piece unit. No ability to add vented seat switches

Then I checked the wiring at the seat end. The pins for the vented seats are not wired by default. That's going to make life difficult to add as an aftermarket mod

I don't think that the wiring on the DE venting is any different from the older car.  The switch/panel does the speed control.  There are only three wires from the panel to the seats.  A live to each seat and a common earth that splits at a crimp.  So not a difficult self wiring job.  It's possible that the wiring is in place fromthe panel to connector H80 on the A pillar.

You're right on the wiring itself, but instead of separate blocks for each switch the DE has a single multiplug (well 2) on the A/c unit, that then goes to the 80 pin connector by the door, and then 4 wires to each of the seat multi plug connectors (2 per fan)

Seems like a fair bit of electrical & trim work to do, maybe it's because I don't have the correct pin removal tools  :D

I sort of cleaned mine on Friday because we had to go to our grandson's wedding today.Well, more of a wipe over once the rain had stopped!!   But not the cleanest that it's ever been. That was for the International in 2013!! :)

So, test drive was 100 miles at 7:00 yesterday morning

She drives well, nice & tight, no major issues, the niggles:

Electric mirrors not adjusting (hmm, who else has this problem at the moment)
Aircon not working, probably needs regassing
Steering wheel a bit off centre, so tracking to be redone to both sides
Chucked a P1110 code, so I need to check the boost control valve pipework

& finally

The satnav time is fine, but is showing a date in 2001. Do I really have to use Tech II to adjust this. I discovered the orginal Kenwood cannot get the time from RDS but as I understand it the later satnav used GPS for the time, which surely has the date information as well?

There was a strange time issue that was noted in the various forums and it was the same on other GM cars.  No solution was found for Saab, but then someone said that it was a GPS matter and it would resolve itself in August 2020. And it did!  But, whether it could only be resolved on that date, I don't know.

So:

Mirrors sorted - switch needed cleaning
Tracking & steering wheel centre sorted - was set to parallel, I felt it was a bit off on the drive home last night on a country road
P1110 was because one of the connections to the boost control valve was off. Mair now matching Mreq up from 960 to 1160 as well  :Fawlty:

Aircon place was closed this morning, so that'll probably take some time, satnav date looks like a Tech II solution. Let's hope I don't have to disconnect the battery

SID tells me I'm getting 33 mpg, which I expect is OK. DTE & maths suggests similar

11 months later, 11,000 miles and it was MOT time.

I just did a little bit of fettling on a couple of brake pipes and some black hammerite on the inner rear arches

Rewarded with another years test & no advisories  so I gave her a wash

Just a brief update as I have put 18,000 miles on her now so time for a service

All the important bits done, including a new fuel filter. I had to grind down my removal tool to be able to remove the old one. Banjo bolts are much preferred

The plugs looked fine. It seemed as though I was using a bit of oil, but there was a slight weep from the oil filter and it came off by hand only, so perhaps that was just a slow leak

Seems I didn't have an air or cabin filter on the shelf so they will have to wait. Bill is out of stock on Aero kits at the moment

I need to get some fresh rubber on to replace the Kumho's. I'm favouring Michelin Primacy, but they are a bit pricey. Falken's are much more reasonable, but unsure of their performance. I'm looking around for a set of rims with tyres on as wellas a more cost effective solution

The Carlsson came with Pirelli from the factory, and had been replaced by the same, but they are quite expensive. The last change, I went for Avon ZV7.  The first outing was to a skid pan and they performed well. They have been on several autobahns since with no problems.

On the 9-5 I have had some Michelin Primacy, they were good but pricey, and got very noisy when over half worn.  I tried Nokian summer tyres on two occasions, as their winter tyres are good. Their summer ones are grippy but started to crack.  The Hankook Evo were fine. So we’re the Goodyear Assymetric.  But I have decided that I’m too old to change a set of summer/winter wheels twice a year, so I have now got some Goodyear Vector 4 seasons.  They look similar to Michelin Cross Climate, but they were a good price at Costco. They took us to Sweden in June, 4 up with luggage, quite impressed.

Odd that some of the caps are on the other way up.

You can't buy them as they are positioned and line bored with the head at the factory.

WIS just says they re numbered 1-5 fro inlet and 6-10 for exhaust
