Yes, that was me!!  Nice day out, and the finish on David's car was exceptional.  Pete came down from Oxford too.

I think I may have posted this elsewhere, but here's a picture I took of myself in the raised bonnet of David's car. (ignore the poor bloke behind me - he was "bent" by the swage line in the bonnet!! :) )

Yes, it's magnificent. There was/is a chap called Len Drew who did this to Citroens. I still recall seeing his DS Safari/Familiale at the ICCCR at Knebworth in 1984. Like this 99, you could eat your dinner off the engine. But you wouldn't dare!

The engine was previously rebuilt by Martin at JamSAAB so only needed checking over. Anything that needed replacing or rebuilding was done as we progressed, though clearly there are areas of the car that remain as original, such as bumpers, seats, carpets etc.

Is it the best? Probably the best 99T out there, but I have no doubt there are other SAABs as good, though the attention to detail on the 99T I really don't think can be matched. For example the fixings (all galvanised) for the brake lines under the front wheel arch have been fitted so all the screw heads are at the same angle - only noticeable when you remove the wheel. Some would say that is unnecessary, but I think it just goes to show the care with which the job has been done. The more you look around the car the more 'detail' you see, which is a testiment to JamSAAB rather than me.

Is the car unique? Again probably as I believe I am the only original private owner of a 99T in the world.

Footnote:  It is also the basis of the Brooklands/Rob Eddie 1:43 scale model

David - the pics which I have seen, and I have seen many of them, shows just how splendid this car is - I was drooling over them. The bit quoted about the screw heads reminds me of the instance (I think I recall telling Will about this recently down at the Taunton meet) where I was at a Ford show at Gaydon some years ago, and I and a couple of mates had been admiring a lovely V4 Ford Corsair's engine bay. The rocker covers had been secured with t-bar screws, and they were all lines up perfectly lengthways. I remarked to my mates "I wonder how many washers the owner fitted under the heads to get them all to line up?" The voice of the owner, stood behind me, confirmed the number as I stood there wishing the ground would open up and swallow me.

The car is a credit to you, well done.
