Thanks for all this folks -really helpful, and exactly what STT is for :) I'm back home tomorrow after a couple of weeks away, so I'll get to it and let you know how I get on.

Looking for something which fills a similar niche, if the 900 'vert didn't exist I'd probably go for one of those big Merc convertibles from the early 90s. Or maybe a similar era Audi ragtop, was it the 80?

The V70 might be for the chop fairly soon. It was only ever going to be a temporary solution, because we need something with seven seats. There's no suitable Saab :( and the XC90 is getting a bit long in the tooth now.

Another recommendation for Kumho. I've had them for the past four years and the difference is huge.

Shame we can't use studs in the UK, though, but they don't half chew up the roads.

I've never been much if a BMW fan. But for the past few days I've been driving a rental 328 - free upgrade from Hertz. And I hate to say this, but I'm starting to rather like it. Decent amounts of oomph, nice noises, superb handling. And the gearbox really is excellent.

I couldn't have one. I don't like the indicator / wiper stalks, or the stereo. But it's really not a bad car.

Sorry  :o  :-[

Fawlty! What are you driving these days?

Really interesting comparisons above. For me the real interest is after the 9k was introduced - then you're comparing the same market segment, whereas the 900, 99 and earlier cars were smaller and (arguably) not aimed at the same market.

Long time iPhone user here, currently without a phone. Thinking about waiting for the iPhone 5 / 4S, and possibly looking at playing with Droid in the meantime.

I don't want to spend huge amounts, or get tied into a contract. But if I were to go eBay shopping, what would be a good mid-to-hi end phone to look for? I want something that will remain at least vaguely current for the next six months.

I was a Prestel user too, and various other dial-up bulletin boards, in the 1980s. Making myself sound really old here  :-\

First use of the internets will have been 1993 as a first year student. It's a bit different now!

Worth adding that Flickr generates the necessary code for you, all you need to do is paste it in.

It's a pretty straightforward process; when I'm back at a proper 'putter I'll upload some screengrabs.

That does look lovely. The grille, alloys and clear lights all work together really well.

I think I like. Would need 7 seats, though :(

I saw a Tesla Roadster on the roads today for the first time. I'd quite like one of those if my numbers came up.

Hello Folks,
I was thinking back to the start of the "other forum" and what had changed since. In fact very little except the wife and I have gone from 2*9000s to 2*9-5s.

Goog luck with the new forum, and thanks in advance for all the advice.

IIRC when SaabScene started I had a 1994 900 Convertible.  Now I have ... A 1994 900 Convertible. All that's changed is that "she" thinks this one's hers. And we don't need child seats in the back any more :D

Did Rover do this towards the end?  :o

Maybe, but haven't they also just started manufacturing at Longbridge again?

As the title says ... 1994 C900, runs beautifully, but sometimes stalls when changing from 3rd down to 2nd.  Usually just after the car has warmed itself up properly.

Should I start by replacing the vacuum lines?  Or should I be tweaking the idle (which does appear a bit low).

Latest in a succession of Saabs, bought last month after four loooong Saabless years:

1994 C900 convertible.  Originally Scarabe Green automatic, now Ruby Red manual with Aero kit.  The previous owner-but-one did a truckload of work on this car, including a full engine rebuild and a very nearly new gearbox (now with LSD) from a 2,900-mile write off.  A few electrical and vacuum issues to sort, on which I'm hoping for help from this forum, but it's lovely.

Other car is a ten-year-old Volvo V70 T5 at the mo but I suspect that will change soon.
