2006 2.0T B207 fluctuating hot idle
« on: 23 October 2019, 11:14:13 PM »
I've mentioned this before, but I decided to try and get proof.....so here it is. I got home yesterday evening, and after I parked on the drive, I turned off the climate control, and the radio, and listened to, and watched, the unstable idle.

The idle speed goes upto 1000rpm for a bit, then comes down to ~800rpm, then up again and so on. Everything apart from the headlights was off. So what is going on here??

Hopefully you can access the link below to see my needle going up and down!!!!

Any ideas on what I need to do to get the idle back to normal, gratefully received!!!

Tonight I got home, and tried the same thing - climate off, and the idle speed seemed to stay constant. I think it was slightly warmer outside - 12 degrees rather than 9. Could that have something to do with it?

Someone on one of the Saab Facebook groups said I need to check/change some hoses...…. any thoughts?

Could it be throttle body, or would I get an issue when driving too?

There are the small hoses around the turbo.  Check that they are not split.  Even a tiny hole may cause an issue.  But you may have a fault with a temp or pressure sensor.  They can get mucky.

Have you cleaned the throttle body? A B207 9-3 should idle at around 700rpm after 30-60 seconds from start (although, your's is a B207R manual? in which case 850rpm idle).

Audax, I haven't, although it has been my intention to do it since I got the car :o

My car is indeed the 5 sp manual.

If the throttle body is a bit gummed up, and there any other symptoms I might notice when driving?

You won't notice anything other than a fluctuating idle, unless it was really bad and you'd be getting a check engine light before then anyway.

Hi, i have a manual 6 speed 1.9 tid with a idle meter that works intermittently other times its hovers around 4-6k rpm.
My guess tells me the EGR is guncked or crankcase ventilation pipe is damaged.

At the moment i'm ruling out electrical fault with the meter itself, cos when it works all is fine, but when it doesn't, engine seems to be vibrating more than normal.

Any ideas will be appreciated.
