Classic Saab 9-5 (MY 1998-2010) / New brakes. What a difference!

Finally got around to replacing my front discs and pads on the Aero (pic). When purchased it I never thought the brakes were all that good. Reasonable but not 'bitey'. Then someone pointed out that it actually had SE rotors on it, but with the Aero caliper carriers and that meant even less swept area on the disc. No wonder.

So now it has nice new QH308mm discs and standard pads. Painted up all the bits that were going to rust over with silver caliper paint, wire brushed the carriers and calipers. Looks rather nice, but now it STOPS! Nice surprise at how cheap it all was too.

Well, it's finally happened. Pulling hard out of a roundabout and the dreaded check engine light popped up. And the gearbox light too. Pulled over and checked levels. Engine was touch low but still plenty on the stick. Auto was spot on. Car still drives well and did not go into limp home mode, but I have. Gearbox is slowly getting noisier over time too but this has been happening for month now. Hope no major damage has been done. No smoke. No smell. Looks like it has thrown a few codes but will have to get it checked out shortly. Hundred k's from a dealer though and out in the country. Hmmm.

Time to replace the malfunctioning cupholder. It threatens to ditch the coffee at any corner and can't be trusted to hold the iphone at all.

So, made up the DIN tool and all set to go.

Photos and suggestions to avoid those tricky little pitfalls, anyone?

Puchased an OBD 2 cable recently.

Wondered what software others may be using.

Any suggestions as to what is decent?
