The Weather Outlook is quite good - I use it now, as Metcheck, has a chequered history (I'll leave it like that).

Also very comprehensive is http://www.accuweather.com/en/gb/united-kingdom-weather
Rain Today is a Godsend. Doreen finds it invaluable as to when to hang the washing out!

Has anyone monitored the accuracy of the live traffic facility on Gmaps? I had an eye on it in the course of recent family travels and was pretty impressed. Over the years I've found the Highways Agency / Traffic England live maps uselessly slow and unreliable. The best facility on the latter site is the Motorway Traffic Flow page, where you can monitor speeds junction by junction on specified m-ways, which does seem accurate and is helpful for long-haul journeys.

I've been using it almost daily for the commute too and from work for the past 9 months. It appears to be highly accurate and informs you of the real situation about 30 minutes ahead of traditional news outlets. The only thing it isn't good on (and can't be until it can see the future!) is the 8am crunch on the A14 where if I leave home at 8am it shows clear as I walk out the house but the traffic gets so heavy in the next 15 minutes that you can be at a standstill again.

Another good app is Waze which is available for IOS and Android, although it shows traffic conditions very well it doesn't seem to be all that hot at suggesting when you use an alternate route so you have to make your own mind up.

That's good to hear, confirms my impression. Family drove up the M6 yesterday and daughter's SMS reports from the back of the car correlated very closely with the green / yellow / red etc stretches which Gmaps was reporting. It updates constantly and unobtrusively too.
