What car would you have if it wasn't a Saab?
« on: 26 June 2011, 09:48:30 PM »
Suppose this question is even more relevant with the high possibility of Saab disappearing - what car would you have if wasn't a Saab?

For me it might be a Subaru Legacy (the 3.0R appeals  8) ), or a Lexus LS400 / LS430 for some bargetastic wafting... For more economical cars I may find myself in a Skoda Superb diesel - do like the estates, though they're holding their value a little too well for me to afford one at the moment.

I would be looking at a Jaaaaaag!  But I'd probably buy a big Skoda or Seat.

If I was a bit fitter and did more of my own heavy maintenance, I would probably succumb to an old Bristol.

As Kev_Mc said, a very relevant question! With 160,000 miles on the clock I have to face the fact that my Aero estate won't last forever (although is running well at the moment apart from the dreaded rear tyre noise  ::) ). I'm thinking on similar lines to others - Skoda, probably diesel Superb estate. However, given the nature of many of our journeys, a petrol TSi is not out of the question. Also considering Passat estate (dearer Skoda), Golf estate (bit small?), Ford Mondeo (not convinced on the interior).

I think I'd want a 4x4 estate with a turbo strapped on it... so probably a Subaru Legacy or maybe a Forester, not convinced on how safe they are but other choices might be an Alfa Romeo (mostly as I've never had one), possibly a Volvo cross country of V70 of some description. Don't like German cars very much so would give them a miss, I might consider another Citroen but they've gone rather boring in recent years. One other car I've always wanted to own at least one of is a Land Rover or Range Rover which is a bit off the wall maybe but just an ownership experience I'd want to have.

Yes a very relevant question. I've been wondering about this, given a desire to avoid German cars. Interesting how few would jump 'sideways' to Volvo.

BTW hi all, some familiar names here; I was NedLudd on Saabscene, decided on a makeover.

Having seen the new 9-5 SportsWagon  8)  at the Motor Expo in London the other week I'd rather like one  ;D. If it's not possible to get another Saab :'(  then I'd probably go for Mercedes. I used to look at Audi, but don't like the 'attitude' any more and I've never liked BMW. Being half Swedish (and having grown up there before moving to London) you are either a Saab man or a Volvo man (and I know what I am so it won't be a Volvo for me).

Good to see a few familiar names on here. Like Tom I fancied a change. Used to be (well, still am) SuperSwede66 on the other forums. Other things have kept me away for a while, but I hope to be back a bit more often.

Saab appears to have had a lucky escape, again, but for how long? I'll be keeping the Saabs nonetheless!

Hopefully Saab will do better than Rover!  At least GM let them keep the new products.  BMW pinched the Mini and sold the rest.  If Vladimir Antonov gets on board (and he is as clean as they say), I think there's a good chance of survival.

I've only ever had 1 make of car that was 100% reliable, Nissan

So I think a Juke or the Q...... ( damned if I can spell it )

Or if money was no object, a GTR
