Since we changed the host, the site is just about covering costs, so there is no urgency to look for more income.

There is a risk with a list of recommended specialists, in that it would come with the chance of having to monitor negative posts.  But I posted on the other thread an existing map of recommended specialists.

I have used this map of recommended Saab specialists.  It was drawn up by Chris Ivory, a Saab enthusiast in the Bristol area.

A great friend of mine uses the specialist in Milton Keynes. Another uses Indy Saab in Rushden.

Welcome! :)

There was a very nice red 9-5 Griffin saloon on the Saab stand at the Classic Car Show at the NEC in November..  It is owned by a man and his wife from the Shetland Isles.  It's a fairly regular visitor to Saab shows on the mainland.

The drain is through a rubber boot.  You can see this behind the engine. It has a “closed” end with a slit in it.

It’s 16 years since I had a car with that aircon system, but the default to ECON may have something to do with the outside air temp.  If it’s too cold the ACC will be off.  It’s all set out in the handbook, but I’m not sure that I fully understood it back then, and I will be even less sure now!!

the two plastic fasteners along the top of the bumper on the 2007 9-5 have fallen apart.  Two small bits of plastic that I couldn't reliably find on eBay, etc.  I bought some years ago and they were the wrong size...

So today, I realised I had the perfect solution in the shed!  Some small well nuts.  They are rubber with an internal brass thread and they expand as the screw goes in.  They work! :)

I've had a look at the WIS and I can't see anything unusual  in the cooling system layout.

The only other thing I can think of is that's the system is OK and it's the gauge tht's reading incorrectly.  High resistance in the electrical connection and wiring?

The highest temperature should be reached with the car stationary and just relying on the fan for airflow.  Does it heat up quicker when sitting on the drive?

Have you checked the thermostats with a thermometer in a saucepan of boiling water on the stove?

Most likely a broken spring.  There are shock absorbers at the rear, but they don't affect the ride height.  Unless you have self levelling, but I don't know if that is fitted to any of the NG9-5.

It's an odd arrangement.  The tank sits over the propshaft like a saddle.  The pump is in only in one half of the tank.  There are pick-ups on both sides.  The fuel in the side with no pump is sucked through into the pumped fuel stream at a venturi in the pump delivery.  Very Saab...

I've had a look at the circuit diagram, sitting in the warm, and I see that the XWD has two level sensors.  I'll check out the connector once I'm well enough to get under the car.

Thanks for all the info.  I’ll try and look into it soon, but I’ve woken with a streaming cold and may spend time in bed instead.  It’s a pity because today is going to be the warmest day this week.

I tried filling the car with the ignition on, but the gauge didn’t rise with the filling.  Maybe we should have tried without turning the engine off.  We stopped the engine and turned the ignition back on without starting.  So back to square one with a full tank and the gauge on empty.   The gauge does move up a tiny bit with the ignition on.

The fuel consumption reading works all the time, but the DTE only shows a reading when the gauge wakes up.  It’s looking more like a sender issue.  It’s too wet to go and investigate at the moment.  Not that I can, as she’s taken the car to church…

74
I’m beginning to suspect the sender. We are on our way home from Devon. The gauge was OK until we filled up. But seems to recover once the fuel level drops to about ⅔ full.

I will risk a refill soon while there are two of us in the car, and do a refill with the ignition on. Then I can see if the gauge stops reading as it gets high.

We’re away for the weekend.  During the next short trip, the gauge was still dead, but the instruments were lit up.

I hate intermittent faults :(
