Where's my old 9-5 now?
« on: 07 February 2012, 09:24:46 AM »
I was having a nostalgia trip on the DVLA website, entering old registration numbers to see if any of my old cars were still around using this page:

https://www.taxdisc.direct.gov.uk/EvlPortalApp/app/enquiry?execution=e3s1

Many of the old Fords show an unlicensed status, and the date at which point the road tax was not renewed (so I guess it is reasonable to assume the cars had been scrapped at that point, or are rotting in someones front garden :-o )

However, when I enter the reg number of my v reg 9-5 that I traded in 6 years ago, I get the message "Vehicle details could not be found".

So what could have happened to it, and how come they have no info? ???

On the AskMID website, that reg also comes up as:
" is NOT showing as insured on the Motor Insurance Database today"

 ???

Would it do this if someone put a personal plate on it?

I will try with my old number.

Yes, I got the same two messages when I put in the old numbers of both our cars.

I get the same with an old Citroen of mine, I'm fairly certain that the car never would have had a plate change as it was worth £800 when I got shot of it and it was on ebay 3 years and 30k later with the same plate and sold for a few hundred. If I look up the reg via DVLA then it all comes back as it should so I have no idea why it's unknown on the tax system.

Well my 1999 Abbott tuned 2.3 SE 9-5 Estate is still on the road and taxed till Sept!

I sold it nearly 4 years ago to a musician who played the Cello and the car had 185k on it then so must have gone past the 200k barrier by now.

Nice to know its still going.

In days of old when many of us frequented a certain other Saab forum that shall remain nameless, but picture the scene ( :-D ), someone contacted me on there to say he'd bought my old 9-5 that I had traded in at Motor nation in Birmingham a couple of months before. He was very pleased with it, but was keen to get any info I had on the car in terms of what might need doing, and what I had had done etc.

I filled him in on everything I knew I had had done whilst I had had the car, which specialists I used to use (thanks to WMSS and hallam & Sutherns ;-) ), stuff that Warranty Direct had paid to have replaced etc etc, and of course that rust in those doors due to poor standard of bodyshop repair before even I had bought the car.

He messaged me to say that he'd had the paintwork sorted out, and he loved the car!!

But then I never heard any more - the private plate explanation could very well be correct. Had it been SORNed or written off whilst on it's original plate, the info would possibly be available via DVLA or AskMID. Or perhaps it's been exported!!!! Who knows!!!!! :P

Just looked up some of my old motors (well, most of them) for a laugh.  Some quite surprising results:

- 1993 T16S 'vert, sold July 2007 with 220k (ish) on the clock, fresh respray but some potential rust issues underneath:  Still on the road, date of liability 01/02/13, ie just been taxed!  Well pleased about this.  Anyone here?  L349CPD.
- 1996(P) 9000CSE, sold September 2000:  Date of liability 01/03/2007 :(  Great car it was, too.
- 1991(H) 900i 16v.  Details not found.  Was in excellent nick when we sold it in 1999 though.  H286NCF, anyone?
- 1993(K) 900SE, LPG'd with leather and air-con.  Also details not found :(  K992UDD
- 1974 96V4, date of liability 01/06/2012 :)

... and the non-Saabs:

- 2003 Aprilia Atlantic 125, sold July 2007:  date of liability 04/04/11, ie no longer with us.  Shame, it was a great scoot.  New exhaust, belt and rollers when I sold it, too.
- 1990(G) Pug 405.  Sold in 1998.  Amazingly still on the road until 2001, according to the DVLA.  What a shed.
- V-reg Espace, written off in 2005, appears to still be on the road and taxed until June!
- X-reg Prius with some nasty front end damage - sold on eBay for spares but appears to be taxed until September.

Can't remember the reg number of my old 960, but I suspect it went to the scrappy with a dropped exhaust valve.

Wow James - you have done some homework there!

I know my 1979 (T) MG Midget was declared SORN last time I looked a month or two back. It was in stunning nick both times I sold it  :o (I sold it once and bought it back some yrs later  8)) and I finally parted company with it in 1999 having owned it since I was 20 years old... and I guess I'd still like that car back even now. Happy memories

I sold my (W) Hyundai Coupe SII four yrs ago - that was quite literally immaculate and I know the chap I sold it to continues with its upkeep regardless of expense.

I really ought to get the reg of my other cars too, and find out if they are still OTR but they weren't anything special and apart from a 2CV I imagine they will

Would be great to see them out and about. I'd even like to chat to the owners

Now I am amazed.

My 1992 Black 9k aero that had everything on it that Abbotts did is still on the road. It shows it is taxed till Dec 2012.

I sold that in 2006 with 192k on the clock to an enthusiast. This is last picture I have of it and would you believe there was some snow on the ground!

In the early 1980s my parents had an S-reg MGB, an L-reg Beetle and an L-reg VW Camper.  The MGB and camper are, according to the DVLA, still on the road :)

Just been checking on the old kit-car hotrod which I did a lot of work on, and for the last 2 years it has not been on the insurance database. I did a lot of mechanical work on it and completely restored the interior, and although it needed a respray, for 2 years it has not been on the insurance database. Can't think it would take that long to paint.
Directgov shows the status as unlicenced and export marker as 'Y'. Does this mean anything?
(sorry mods for a non-Saab post)

Y in the Export Marker should mean that it's gone abroad.

Y in the Export Marker should mean that it's gone abroad.

That explains it. Ta. So it has gone from these shores. Sniffing back a little tear - 3 years of blood sweat & tears....
