Help my lad
« on: 14 March 2012, 10:41:19 AM »
Completely off topic but wondered if you chaps would like to help.

My son is a drummer in a local band. They've just recorded an album which took 6 months and has just been mastered at same studio in London where bands such as Kasabian and The Who, Dido and others did there's. We are proud of what  they have done and crowds love them where ever they play. My son is only 24 but at Grade 9 in drumming and has been praised by my very close friend Luke Bullen who is the drummer and husband of KT Tunstall

Long shot but they have the chance to open at a music festival in front of 5000 people and to do this they have to win a voting competition.

In music - ever bit helps and that guy that recorded their album did the music for the Bejing Olympics!

May not be your kind of music (Blink 182 and Greenday style) but any help to let them win is appreciated.

They are called Keep It Secret (KIS) and comprise my son and 2 pals - see here

This is where you need to go to vote for them. Sorry if you never use Facebook and I fully understand if you do not want to visit the site.

We are grateful for any help and if they hit the big time my son has promised me a new Saab or even Saab itself - lol.

Done, Jim. Also asked daughter to send round to her uni friends. She has many, many more contacts on FB than I!

You chaps are so kind.

The lads played last week at a charity gig in Kings Lynn - no one knew them at the beginning of the evening but by the end they had loads of offers for gigs.

My lad has now so many drums it fills the back of my estate completely - nigh on now around £6k worth of kit. His snare was made in USA as a 21st present from us and set me back £700. So loud it doesn't need mics!!!!

Again we do appreciate this

I've done it (I think) - put a tick next to the band (now on 133 votes) though there's no option to submit / confirm. Not much of a fan of facebook, but worth the pain of going onto the site to vote  8) ;D

Done too.  Small world, I was at school with KT's manager and some mates of mine did backing stuff on her first album.

Played in bands on and off myself for longer than I care to remember - good luck to your lad!

Thanks all.

James - small world as you say. Kate has asked for the first copy of their album. She's so nice as a person.

Thank you to everyone who voted.

They are now creeping up the ladder and not that far behind now - fingers crossed.

Many thanks guys to all that have voted for my lads band. they are now in second place and hoping for a surge of votes from friends of friends etc but being in second means they will actually get a playing slot.

Would still be good to win and open the music festival though.

Cheers

Well the competition has now closed and my sons band came second out of 100 bands and although not opening the festival they will get playing time on the main stage so many thanks for all your votes.

They release there new album in 2 weeks in Norwich at B2 music venue and have just finished an expensive video for those who enjoy a good smile..........as you'll hear the sound is very much orientated to Blink182 who come from California so look for the link in the video. My son is the mad drummer

Things get better as well as they have been approached by BBC Look East to take part in an interview about local up & coming musicians etc. Not sure when it will be aired yet...............

Again I do appreciate the help given by those who voted and the lads have asked me to thank you all.
