Problem with fuel gauge and coolant gauge
« on: 13 July 2017, 10:07:57 PM »
Still keeping my dads 9000 on the road and he's thrown me a little challenge.

Both of the above gauges were no longer working. After a bit of reading around it seemed likely that there was a problem with the electrical connector at the bottom of the ignition switch, so I started the car, reached under the dash gave a little wiggle and both started to work.  :)

We went out for a drive and after about 20 minutes both dropped to the rest position, went over a bump and they both started working again before going off again.

I decided to try and fix the problem properly so removed the connector and electrical part of the ignition switch and applied a bit of contact cleaner, hoping that would solve the problem. It didn't and now neither gauge is working, wiggles or not. It would appear to be a broken wire / connector on the feed / +ve side of the circuit (or earth, but the earth will be elsewhere I think)

Does anyone have any insight into where the problem may be. I'm having trouble finding a decent wiring diagram (including for the ignition switch) and would rather avoid having to remove the dash top which is where I think I will end up, probably fruitlessly

Many thanks
