Brake disc data

Brake disc  diameters (for MY07 cars, others should be the same, I am checking...)
Code positions are 7 for front, 8 for rear




Front

"Saab Brake Size" - Code - Dimensions - Engine

15" brake:  AA 285mm dia. - 25mm thick  Z18XE, B207E/L, Z19DT/H, (Not CV Z19DTH)

16" brake:  AB 302mm dia. - 28mm thick  B207R, (CV Z19DTH), All US (except B284L)

16"+ brake: AC 314mm dia. - 28mm thick  B284L, Z19DTR
 
17" brake:  AD 345mm dia. - 30mm thick  B284R

Rear


"Saab Brake Size" - Code - Dimensions - Engine

15" brake:  BA 278mm dia. - 12mm thick (unventilated solid disc)  Z18XE, B207E/L, Z19DTH (not CV Z19DTH)

16" brake:  BB 292mm dia. - 20mm thick (ventilated) B207R / B284L, Z19DTR (CV Z19DTH/R)

16" brake:  BC 292mm dia. - 20mm thick (ventilated) B284R (4WD, larger centre hole)

Mine is a 2003 2.0T (B207R) and it is equipped with 314mm front discs.
So not only the B284 have 314mm discs but the early Aero's as well.

Is there any braking performance benefit to having 314mm front discs rather than 302mm? i.e. would they be a better choice on a remapped car?

Yes, the larger diameter alone gives an improved stopping power. The pads also have a greater area. Together they are a very worthwhile upgrade.

Great - my discs will need doing at some point in the next year or so, so that might be the time to upgrade ;)

Need to source callipers off a scrap early Aero first though ;)

The same calipers were also fitted to the 3.2 Vectras  ;). Make sure you get the carriers too.

My 2005 Saab 9-3 Arc Convertible has no brake codes... Shows the first numbers, but the brake codes are blank, with dashes.... What so I do?

Try putting the full VIN number into Matt Nicklay's site.  It's got access to the full Saab factory data and should throw up the right parts
