"Steering lock malfunction"
« on: 03 May 2020, 10:38:04 AM »
Was just looking at cars for sale as I do, and came across a 9-3 wagon being sold for spares/repair with a "Steering lock malfunction" fault showing on the SiD.

Is that actually an easy fix?

I keep an eye on these things in case I ever see such messages on my SiD, so if it happens I might have an idea of what is needed to fix.

I'm not a 9-3 guy, but that's a common problem I think.

Likely CIM (column integration module), have a google, until someone else turns up  ;)

Yes, it seems to be a common fault.  The lock is a separate item that's inside the CIM.  But the failure is more likely the communication between the lock and the CIM rather than the lock itself.  There is someone who knows his electronics who said that 99.9% of all CIM faults that he's seen are caused by dry or cracked solder joints.
