Passed my test in 1982, since then:

Hillman Avenger 1250DL
Ford Escort Mk 1 Estate 1300 (replaced by a 1600 lump after I'd cooked the 1300)
Triumph Vitesse 2 Litre Saloon MII
[While it was being worked on - Hillman Avenger 1500L, FSO Polonez]
Saab 900S Classic (That was the start!)
Saab 9-5 Estate on a W
Saab 9-5 Saloon on a S (Hirsch tweaked to approx 200bhp allegedly. Still have it)
Saab 9-5 Estate on a 52 (Still have it)
Saab 9-3 Convertible (Still have it)

Not many when I see it written down...

Another Avenger owner! Passed test in 1986. Almost immediately got a car:

1973 Hillman Avenger 1600GL (twin round headlamps, L shape tail lights)
1982 Audi 80 1.6GL (series 2)
1989 Audi 80 1.8GL (series 3)
1992 Saab 9000 2.0i XS hatchback
1998 Saab 9-5 2.3 SE auto saloon
2004 Saab 9-5 Aero auto estate

Had the Saabs longer than anything else. 6 years with the 9000, 10 years with the SE (sold earlier this year), into the 5th year with the Aero.

Passed my test aged 17, first time.

Wolseley 1500 - A give me from my uncle, whilst I was learning, and for a short time after I passed the test. Owned 18 months.
Ford Cortina MK III 2000E Auto - first proper car, which became the family car, after Dad took a shine to it (cf. his Morris Marina). Owned 3 years.
Ford Granada 2.8GL Auto - time to upgrade. Many tens of thousands of happy motoring miles. Owned around 7 years (stolen, trashed)
Vauxhall Cavalier 1.6 GL - economic replacement - good for what it offered. Owned a year.
Vauxhall Cavalier 1.8 CDi - chance to buy came along - too good to refuse. Owned a year.
Peugeot 405 GRi - Good friend had one, love it, bought one. Owned a year.
Peugeot 405 Mi16 - opportunity arose and grabbed it. Did around 100.000 miles in it. Owned 6 to 7 years. Began to fall apart.
Classic Saab 900i - bought on behalf of my co-best man, who footed the bill, too.
Saab 9000 CSE 2.3 FBT - Superb car. Many tens of thousands of effortless stuff. Owned for 7 years - passed onto my wife.
Ford Explorer 4.0 - sadly missed. Loved it, and lugged many a thing around the country. Owned for just one year. Sold to buy the next car - our wedding vehicle.
Saab GM900SE Turbo Convertible - bought as a keeper, but sold after around 5 or 6 years, to finance home business expansion. Worst decision EVER made.
Saab GM900XS - Hers, and now the daughter's. Been in the family 9 years + now. Still going strong, and eating the miles.
Saab 9000CSE V6 - To replace the above. Workhorse. Owned around 4 (?) years - passed onto my wife.
Lexus LS 400 - His. Everyone loved it. Best car I have ever owned. Bought as a keeper. Unexpectedly blew head after 11 months. unheard of by Lexus guys. Totally gutted. Sadly missed.
Saab 9000 Anniversary 2.3t - Replacement for the above. His workhorse. Owned 3 years.
Bedford Bambi Mk1- campervan - used, enjoyed, and eventually used for spares. Owned 1 year.
Bedford Bambi Mk2 - campervan - used enjoyed, needed mechanical work, which the above supplied. Owned 1 year. Moved up to a caravan.
Saab 9-3SS Aero - Opportunity (and no brainer regarding the deal) arose. Bought it. Love it. Owned 21 months to date. Current.
Smart ForFour 1.1 Pulse - hers. Fantastic little car. Owned for just over a year, and passed its MoT last week with no advisories. Great fun to drive. I suspect this will be in the fleet for quite some time. Current.
Also bought our show car 1972 Saab 96V4 now with thirteen thousand miles on the clock somewhere in there. Current. Owned just over 6 years to date.

At one time, there were 6 vehicles in the fleet - it crept up on me, and so vehicles were sold last year, to more manageable levels.

Also 1998 Suzuki Bandit 1200 - since new, currently garagebound

Wrighar - you've never had anything other than Saab!!! Your avatar should say Mr Saab!

Eh Sean I assume you've put your years as the ownership rather than car reg?? Nice to see you had a 1600E with all that lovely wood and RoStyle wheels. I loved mine as it had the Lotus 1600 twin cam engine as well as the suspension etc. Black Cherry was colour - very deep dark red slight purple hint looked nearly black. We had holiday in Scotland (before getting married) and wife to be shut keys in boot in middle of no-where - I used a stick to pop the boot lock - never put anything worth money in there ever again! You also had a crapi!

SWIMBO's cars

1987 Volvo 345 GL 1.7 shared with me as I had company car for a while
1994 Volvo 440 2.0 GLT - really enjoyed driving this car which had good handling.
1999 Volvo V40 1.8 XSi - whole new world from 440. Comfortable and handled well. Was bright blue!! She put on 45k with no issues.
2005 Volvo V50 2.0D - superb car and not a Ford in different clothes. Put on 30k without a single glitch!

You guys have better memories than me. I can't remember the ages of all the cars, or even the year I passed my test, but probably '82 ot '83.  Anyway, here goes:

Ford Sierra Estate 2.0GL   (company car)
Ford Sierra Estate 1.6L     (company car)
  SAAB 900 GLi
  Austin Allegro
  Chrysler Alpine
  Austin Maxi
  Rover 820i  (company)
  Peugeot 405 Estate   (company)
  Vauxhall Cavalier
  VW transporter bus
  Renault Savannah 7 seater
  Renault Espace   (G reg)
  SAAB 9000 CDE
  SAAB 900 NG auto   (P-reg)
  SAAB 9-5 2.3T auto  (S-reg)
  SAAB 9-5 2.3T auto   (T-reg)
  Volvo S40 1.8 T4 auto  (T-reg)
  Ford Explorer 4.0L V6  (S-reg)
  Ford Fiesta 1.3   (Y-reg)
  SAAB 9-3 Convertible

of those I think I enjoyed the 9-5s the most, though filling the Fiesta with less than £50 and getting about 40 to the gallon does have its attractions.

I liked the Volvo, but was disappointed at the number of standard faults that needed fixing (not unlike the 9-5 in that regard).  One interesting behaviour it had was when changing gear upwards under power it would turn left. Lots of posts about this in the Volvo forums and no fix.

The Explorer was fun. The V6 sounded great, it was lovely and comfy, but the fuel consumption was terrible. I just couldn't afford to keep it in fuel.

Mike

I think it goes something like ...

1974 VW Beetle - bright yellow, I built 1600 with a nice Weber carb so it went a bit too.
1990 Peugeot 405 GR - daughter on the way ...
1991 Saab 900i 16v Lux - first of many
1974 Saab 99 LE Auto - bought as our wedding car, now in Australia
1993 Mondeo - less said the better
1996 Saab 9000CSE - wonderful
1994 Saab 900S Aero Convertible - Abbotted
2000 Saab 9-5 Aero Wagon - Dad Racer.  First new car I'd ever bought
1971 Alfa Romeo GT Junior - should never have sold it
1966 Porsche 912 - the car I sold the Alfa for.  Technically I still own it, but I'm not sure where it is
1992 or thereabouts Audi 100 - cheap hack that was far better than I gave it credit for
1997 Land Rover Discovery - owned for a day, sold for a profit
1999 Prius - Scrapped in the end due to undisclosed accident damage
1993 Peugeot 309 XRdT - fun, smoky little go-kart
1999 Alfa Romeo 166 2.5 - lovely noise, too thirsty
1993 Saab 900SE LPG - cheap to run, and air con!
1993 Saab 900SE - dead gearbox, donated its leather and wood to the other one
2001 Renault Grand Espace 2.2dT - absolutely vast
1996 Volvo 960 CD - thirsty luxo-wagon
1994 Saab 900 T16S Convertible - written off (not by me!) and rebuilt
1974 Saab 96V4 - an itch I had to scratch
2005 Lincoln Aviator - fantastically competent, indecently fast
2001 Volvo V70 T5 - liked it but the 'box was on the way out
1994 Saab 900 T16 Convertible - yes, another one
2012 Ford Explorer Limited - big and red
1974 Dodge Charger SE - currently under construction
2008 Vectrix VX1 - to offset the emissions from the Dodge :D

The last four I still own, some of the rest I wish I still did ...

Some interesting car histories there. Noticed a few Hillmans, Austins, Wolseley's around...

I think it goes something like ...

1966 Porsche 912 - the car I sold the Alfa for.  Technically I still own it, but I'm not sure where it is

2008 Vectrix VX1 - to offset the emissions from the Dodge :D

Is the Porsche in South Africa?

Any pics of the Dodge? Any pics of the Vectrix (only as I've no idea what that is!)

Here ya go, Kev:

The Vectrix is a great machine with initially flawed battery management software.  That's now been fixed, but not before the company went through bankruptcy.  Production's only just resumed.  Mine was bought, traded in with only 300 miles on it and sat unloved in a powersports store for three years before I found it.  I've put over 1,000 on it since then and it's brilliant.  Hope the 'new' company does well.

As for the Charger, not sure we can embed videos but try this:

http://youtu.be/ThiSsP2_OnM

It was a right mess and full of holes when I bought it but is now rust-free; I should, I hope, start putting it back together again in a couple of weeks.  In the meantime I'm in a small amount of trouble domestically because I bought a 1985 Golf GTI over the weekend.  I had to, it was only £300.  And my daughter can drive it in just over a year :D

Talking of Austins, Hillmans and Wolesleys ... last weekend I took my dad to a 'British car show' organised by the local MG Club.  He was quite the celeb, telling them all about the Singer 10 and Riley 1.5 he used to have.
