Dash illumination -how to fix it?
« on: 16 October 2012, 11:07:15 AM »
Over the winter I would like to try and get all the dash lights (the ones that light the switches) working again on my 9000. The warning lights are Ok but I am sure some of the switch lights are missing.
Also, how difficult is it to replace the bulbs. I would add here I am hopeles at anything like this so a step by step guide would be most helpful.

Part of the problem is knowing which switch is illuminated, so does anyone have a clear photo of this?

Thanks in anticipation.

Having done this one my first and second 9000, as well as a Peugeot, the task was similar and it isn't so difficult as you'd think.

From memory:

Removing the top of the dashboard.
1. At each end, remove the speaker grills, to access bolt heads. Do not lose/drop/forget  spacing washers.
2. Remove screw top middle of the binnacle.

Removing Binnacle
1. Release retaining clips around the edge for wiring, and any other retaining screws.
2. Should be a straight, but careful, lift out from here.

There are four bulbs that illuminate the dash. They are in thumb/finger-turn holders, so I would make sure that contacts are clean and in good order, before replacing bulbs.  When I did this on 9000 Number 1, the top two on either side were blackened - changing them made all the difference.

The switchgear is straightforwardish.
The illuminated headlight control dial may/may not be illuminated - depending on the age of the switch.
The ACC control has three bulbs
The other switchgear is just as pulloutable, with a protected screwdriver.
