Speeding Notice from France
« on: 01 August 2015, 12:50:24 PM »
Just got a speeding notice from my trip last month. I was in a German hire car travelling from Paris to near Toulouse. Mondeo diesel estate. Hate to say it but actually a nice car with boot to match my 9-5.

117k in a 110 limit. That's just over 4mph over the limit! Harsh!!

45€.

And I thought I was religiously sticking to limits... Must have been an area where motorway limit was reducing and I missed it...

Should take my own car as I usually do next time then they can't trace me..

45€.

That's not so bad only ~£30, the amount over the limit is tight but in the UK you get £100 and 3 points for a speeding offence!

But in Britain I'd have to be at least 9mph over to get a fixed penalty...

Just sulking cos I've never had one...

Be careful on that as it's only an ACPO guideline (10% +2mph), if you get pulled by a traffic copper who is having a bad day then he could issue a fine for anything over the limit.

Not in North Wales - zero tolerance.

I sympathise with your feelings - a Gendarme once ticketed me for 2km/hr over the limit. Didn't argue with him ... he had a gun :)

So, let me be the first to bite and ask why they wouldn't be able to trace your own car?

I believe the UK opted out of the pan European agreement to allow access to registration data. So if you get physically stopped you are subject to a fine, but if it's a camera they can't get your data.

Believe that may change in 2017.

Got the double flash last week in france, luckily it's the wifes car......

I was pulling out a junction turning left , out a 90km/h zone.

Pulling onto carriageway and up to 90 as traffic now behind, and lorry coming from other direction. only to see a 70 and then immediatly a Gatso, and then a 90 just after....

Guessing the junction section was all 70, but there were no restriction speed notices the way we came up to it... just a 70 repeater before the camera.

I saved the dashcam footage, and there was no 70's except for immediatly before the camera, and no way to see the sign before pulling out.

At least it was before Jan 2017 :-)

The UK will need to access the European vehicle registration numbers to charge non resident cars when they use the Dartford Crossing.

You need to be careful using dashcams in Europe.  They are illegal in a few countries due to privacy laws, typically the countries that do not allow Google Streetview.

The UK will need to access the European vehicle registration numbers to charge non resident cars when they use the Dartford Crossing.

The company that runs the Dartford tolling system is French and also runs some of the similar tolls in France.  At the moment you can't use one sensor for the Dartford Crossing and the French autoroutes, but they are planning to change that soon.
