Thanks Carrera.
None of the SAAB forums have much on these NG9-5s.
However the Vauxhall guys are very busy.
The oil pick up is a gallery from the centre of the sump pan. All 2.0l tid's & ttid's are effected.
This has a strange looking seal that hardens over time, reason unknown. ( personally, bad design ). once hard it can break up and the engine starts to suck air, ouch.
Fuel contamination due to improper/incomplete DPF regeneration is a probable cause.
Solutions:
1) reduce oil change interval to 10k mls.
2) Use only recommended oils.
3) Change the seal at 80k and no later than 100k.
First signs are on cold mornings, 2 seconds of low oil pressure warning accompanied by stop engine. If the seal isn't changed immediately there is a high likelihood of a completely toasted engine. FFS.
10hr job to replace, videos on Vauxhall sites.
Interestingly, this is a Fiat engine, in the Fiats this is not a problem, the exhaust route is one explanation given to explain this.
Happy motering
