Checking 9000 TDC
« on: 31 December 2011, 11:36:52 AM »
MY96 Model. The cams line up OK with the notches, but I'm not sure about the bottom end. Various articles make references to checking the marks on the pulley wheel against those on the timing cover, but I can't see anything obvious. With the cams set at TDC, this is the position of the pulley wheel:

Does this looks correct? Anyone have a pic of how it should be, or is there another method of checking?

Some 9000's (pre-93 I think) had timing marks on the flywheel end of the engine and you could see via a hole on the transmission. Later ones I think had a notch on the crank pulley and that should line up with another notch on the timing cover (like the 9-3 and 9-5), you need to look down from the top of the engine rather than up from the bottom I think. It has been a while since I looked at a 9000.

Found it- viewed from above. A small notch in the pulley wheel and a raised rib on the timing chain cover behind the pulley wheel
