2003 93 Vector Purchase
« on: 15 September 2011, 05:49:13 PM »
Hi All!
Been away for too long....maybe because my 95 AERO still runs great, eventhough it is fast approaching 270,000 miles!

I'm helping a friend with the purchase of a 2003 93 Vector. The car has 157,000 miles, but looks to be in great shape. There are two problems with the car that the dealer is tending to.
The first is the blower motor for heat, a/c defrost needs to be replaced. The second is the car starts to missfire under any kind of load or accelleration. He has told us that it is an ignition problem and should be an easy repair. Coil pack is what he thought.

Does this seem to be a likely problem, an easy fix? After it's repaired will a test ride confirm that all is well?

Please help!

Mark

Welcome back! :)

We have a 2003 9-3 Vector 1.8t.  It does not have a single coil pack like the old Saab engines.  It has a separate pack for each plug and a fifth pack to link them together.

I don't know about the fan.  I saw what looked like one behind the glove box last week when I had the box out to fit the Parrot handsfree to the car.

But as long as the dealer is fixing things, it seems OK.  The new GM based engines seem to be quite robust.

Thank you for the fast reply.
This 93 has the 2.0T, which I don't know much about.

Is it a 4 cylinder engine? Is this the GM based engine that you mentioned?
Do you think the misfiring could be a coil problem?
Thanks

The 9-3 Vector will have the 2.0t engine with 175hp.

The 2.0T engine has a different turbo and 210hp. It is one of the engines in the Aero.

The 1.8t engine is the same 2 litre engine as the 2.0t but is retuned to 150hp.
