turn the steering wheel left and right while reading the value, if it changes it's almost certainly a faulty clock spring.

The Saab fix for this was plastic covers to go over the bolt heads.

MOT and Service day, decided to try indysaab in Rushden, about £580 down, major service, back box and mot done and a customer supplied headlamp washer fitted. Can highly recommend them! Front of house staff knew what they were talking about which gives me great confidence in their abilities, busy workshop too.

I bought torque back in 2011, cost me £2.95, money very well spent.

The price of secondhand cars has been rising for a while, I don't think it's unbelievable. There was a time when the youngest 9000 was about 12 years old when the price of a 9000 went up stupid high as people wanted them. I sold my £650 9000 Anniversary which I'd had for 2 or 3 years for £1750... I only paid £750 for the 9-5 estate I'd replaced the 9000 with!

In all reality I would leave it, reverse gear was a common problem and the only fix that I can recall was taking the gearbox apart and overhauling it and replacing gears. You'd be better off waiting on getting a replacement gearbox if you can and stashing it in a shed and when the clutch needs replacing look at building a new box then.

I have a 12V pump in one of our cars, but it was so painfully slow that I wasn't sure if it was even working. So I ended up using a combination of a foot pump, or a handpump that we have for bicycle tyres (a vertical one with a good gauge, not the sort that is normally strapped to your crossbar!!!!).

From what you've written I can tell you that the 12V pump is broken... I had to once pump up 4 winter tyres from about 10-15psi using a bike track pump when my old 12V inflator died... it took a while, my current 12V pump would take a few minutes to do each at most which is far faster than using a track pump.

sounds like coils and plugs, full set of new genuine coils available from ebay from a decent seller for £168

I have the same towbar, it's a lump of c**p! the lock can get stuck and required a fubar last time to undo it, last time I fitted the thing it refused to lock in place properly until I hit with the fubar. I have just left the tow bar in place now as even if the receiver is perfectly clean and the lock turns when the tow bar is off the car it can stick.

I've been using NGK Iridium plugs on the 9-3 Carlsson V6 with success.

None are listed for B207 or B284 engines though?

I think I should restore one of the headlamps on the 9-3 as it's starting to go cloudy, one issue I've had before is that once you do it then it seems to deteriorate again quite quickly after, what I was wondering is if I get some UV protective film to put on the headlamps would this work better than using a sealant as A. I can't find any sealant B. I've read if you use sealant you have to do it again shortly after.

Anyone got any words of wisdom to offer?

I would continue looking at alternator and charging circuit for now.

However one of the most difficult to find problems I ever had on a 9-3 was very similar circumstances where the car would randomly go flat if left for more than a couple of days. What we eventually found was that the car had a tracker fitted which the owner was unaware of, it was fitted under the rear seats or in the boot somewhere and was connected to a constant +12V feed to the REC, we think that the tracker had an internal battery which had gone bad and was only providing about 24-48 hours worth of life to the tracker so that the current draw would only go up after a day or so. Took us nearly 2 weeks to work this out simply due to it only starting after a couple of days.

I've commented on the SOC page on FB when you have the OG vs NG 9-3 debates, OG fans complaining about the GM content of the newer cars and asked when was the last time you saw a Vectra?  and when was the last time you saw a 9-3SS S-W or vert?  Last Vectra I saw was actually a 'B' (95-02)...

Funnily enough here in West Cambs there are a lot of NG 9-3's and OG 9-5's about, I see them daily here and when I travel to Cambridge and there's a few in the streets around here, also there was one in the car park the other day  when we went to Ely.

To be fair, the directions were pretty good to find it

They're not uncommon to need replacement when a 9-5 gets north of 100k
