Greetings to you all!

I'm in UKSaabs and Saabscene and trying to get as much info into my head about SAABS as I can. I'm new to the marque having owned a Mk1 Escort, MG Midget, several Minis, Citroen 2CV, Citroen BX Gti, and couple of superb Hyundai Coupes. I also own a pre-war MG J2... But that's another story

I miss the open-air motoring of my MG that I owned for over 20 years and have been hankering after an open top for the last ten years. The SAABs caught my eye as something a little different and as I now have a family, something reasonably practical too.

I'm in the process of parting company with my work-hack Pug 306 D Turbo for a 2006 93 Vector TiD Convertible with 60K on the clock in what I think is Parchment Silver and grey leather.

I just bought the car but its sitting in storage at the moment as I'm going to be out of the country for ten and a half weeks in the Middle East, so there was no point in taxing it, which means I'm not going to get behind the wheel until mid September  :(.

I will post a couple of pics when I get back.

Looking forward to talking all things SAABand maybe even meeting one or two of you in the real world on the way! I'm based in a beautiful part of the Cotswolds, and the kettle is always on!

Best regards,

Mark

9-5 Aero estate auto with Hirsch suspension & Maptun stage 1 upgrade. Has all the bells and whistles including ventilated seats. Currently a few miles under 160,000 but still running well (except for the usual tyre noise from the rear tyres). I've been tempted to replace it with something more economical, but it would be hard to find something else at the peanuts it's now worth with such a high spec.

I think we need to hear a LOT more about this project!! ;D :o 8) 8)

Cheers Leon.

Gist of the project:
Has been created from a cannibalised 900 (MY98) & is a 675Kg LM style prototype running 290BHP (380BHP is available 500BHP is the target but way to scary right now). 1000KG @ 120MPH+, more downforce tweaks to come so it should handle. At the moment it spends it's life putting me in ditches & hedgerows coz the set up it naff.

STATS with hand held stop watch & eye balled speedo reading @ 330BHP was 0-100-0 in 7.8 seconds so still a tad slow (target is 6'ish).  {edit} 100 KPH not MPH {edit}

The B204 sump is so low I can't get it road legal (can't get it on the test stations rolling road without grounding), so I'm building a new oil pan. Mean while I'm trying to get the chassis set up to, at least, go in straight lines  ::)

One day it will do as it's told and I'll get my head round T5 suit :D
Not sure I have enough time. When is the sun due to eat the earth?  :P

PS. Just moving the website of the project at the moment not sure my website link is working properly right now, but the whole story is there when it does. The Beast don't fit into a category so don't know where to scribble about it here at STT.

Hi quinophex, sorry for the delay. Never a Ford because of the cynical marketing during the 1970s (Don't ask me to quote examples!).
But my late father had a Mk 1 Escort and I remember the gearbox being a delight to use. Widely regarded by the press as the best around at the time IIRC.

Hi All,

Thank you for inviting me here.

I'm from Cape Town, South Africa. Saab is not well represented here in sunny South Africa.

I have a 2000 95 Aero with 113k kms (about 70k miles). It's probably the nicest 95 of it's vintage here in SA. It's in almost new condition and has never seen a bodyshop. It's silver with dark grey leather and has every option that was available excluding the ventilated seats (previous owner didn't want perforated leather). I'm the second owner, having acquired it in January 2006 with 41000kms on the clock.

The current set of Falken FK452 tyres are nearly finished and need to be replaced. While the tread still looks good, they seemed to have worn on the insides.

Other than that, I had a bit of a scare in December last year. After a trip of about just over 100 kms, the car was smoking. The smoke was only upon leaving the accelerator and was bluish grey. My mechanic (a Saab nut) believes I shouldn't be too concerned about it as it would clear itself. It has - since then, I've only once seen a slight puff of smoke come out of the exhaust. I'm still very nervous about it though!

I just wish there was a viable option to play MP3's or my iPod in it!

Here she is in all her glory!

Have a 2011 9-3 Estate with the new low emision engine. Last car was a '57  9-5 Vector Sport that was forever in garage with all sorts of problems , mainly electrical and a new alternator seemed to fix it but lost confidence in the car.

1990 9000 Carlsson.

What have I done to it?

New driver's door, from another Carlsson, and no, the stripes DON'T line up 1/2" lower on the door.

Headling redone.

Pair of headlamps (with wipers) fitted, it came without, wipers not headlamps.

Aero seats and door cards (originals stored and were in good condition).

Blaupunkt DAB53 fitted, came with no ICE!!

MOT'd March and had rear brakes serviced and handbrake cable replaced.

On the list, replace 20 year old vacuum lines with silicone....yellow or blue?
