Do we know the difference been the 1.8t Linear 150bhp and the revised 'SE' with 163bhp? Is it just an B207 ECU tweek?

That's interesting! New 220bhp engine with 'old' front, 'old' dash. Maybe they stuck the newer engines in the pre final facelift leftover cars...or the final facelift only appiled to saloons and verts.

Interestingly the turbo4 1.8t convertible autos are £290 road tax rather than the £490 from MY11 backwards. Emissions were lowered on the turbo4.

There was a red/parchment 2.o SE convertible with the 163 bhp engine and facelifted front/rear for sale at a VX dealer a month or so ago. Started off at 15k then went down to 12 and a bit...it sold at that price.

I know this is a late post but some extra knowledge on the turbo4 for others who might be seaching for info.

Hi - sorry for late reply. Yes one bottle of AG prppfer will do the roof twice. Re the fabsil, I don't think you need to re-shampoo. Since it's beading well, maybe wait until spring and do the AG shampoo and then fabril on the roof when dry?

Hi Fabsil is a favourite on another Saab forum and people swear by it. Needs applying to a dry roof not wet like the AG stuff. I just apply 2 coats of the AG proofer but with a 2 inch paintbrush lol - that way you can work it in and you don't get loads of it over the bodywork. Lasts through the year. Also carry a bottle of sparking water in the boot with a microfibre to remove bird shit - the sparkling water draws the lime out and leave the hood as good as new!

I think this was a Saab 'accessories' option. I've seen same year petrol Aeros with both hidden and visible twin exhausts.

Jeez -  :o Glad you got it sorted though.

Hi
Don't you get a puff of white smoke? Is coolant not disappearing from the reservoir? Removing the cap of my old 9-3, i used to get the same noise as when opening fizzy wine. That was the B205E engine - not heard of h/g going on the B207 engines. Let's see what the indie says when the head is off.

Hi
Usually with h/g problem , you'll see a bit of white smoke on a cold start and when warm, if leaking only a little, you shouldn't get much, if any, stuttering. I had the h/g replaced on my 01 -93SEt (after a stage 1 remap). it would stutter from cold for about 10 secs (with a sweet smell of coolant from the exhaust) then all fine but felt a little down on power. Get someone to start the car for you from cold and watch for white smoke and a sickly sweet smell.

Hi
I think they ran 280bhp - based on 3dr LPT. They was a guy on SSC who had one. God know how you explain the mods to Direct Line lol - specialist insurance only me thinks. Would love to drive one  8)

oops edit: it's an SS not classic 9-3 - scrub the above then!

Hi
Richard Elliot of Saabtec in Glossop repaired mine last year (2001 9-3) - think it was about £500. He also fitted a rack clamp too. www.saabtec.co.uk

Just has my ACC unit refurbed by Saab Display Repairs in Wales. Very good service, lifetime guarantee £55.
Cheers

Hi

It could be a few things. Without knowing the history of the car: DI cassette, blocked cat, blocked back box or just iffy petrol. Sorry can't be of much help.

Classic Saab 9-5 (MY 1998-2010) / Re: Smoking 2001 9-5

Hi

Leaking oil seals on turbo allow oil to seep thru overnight. If it's really bad you could knacker the cat. Ensure PCV is latest version first though in case. Worth a sump drop and clean out too.

Edit: just watched your vid. quite a bit of smoke - I'd get it sorted. Mine did that at 47k miles!

Hi
The petrol 9-3 SS (so 03 on) is very reliable ( bar the front springs) - it's the GM Fiat diesels which have the problems with the EGR etc etc.
