New Saab 9-5 (2010 on) / Mirror glass - exterior mirror
« on: 07 July 2022, 12:02:26 PM »
Guess it's the warm air we've had recently but it would appear the adhesive holding the glass to the mechanism is losing it's grip on the glass itself....  means the glass and the view vibrate while moving at speed.

Anyone else had this?  What was the fix?

Between Whitchurch and Newport on the A41 in Shrewsburyshire....

15 Chester Road....

Been down that road so many times and hadn't noticed them..

Check it out on Googly Earth.  Next time if I am travelling in daytime I will stop to photograph them.

Only shortly thereafter, breaking the M5 speed limit heading to the M42 junction I come across a wonderful 1984 900 Turbo 16 3-door.  Not an S, but the standard Turbo 16.  Driver was confused with the beeping and waving from a Golf R-Line.

New Saab 9-5 (2010 on) / New Poltergeist trick
« on: 02 October 2021, 02:11:02 PM »
I am beginning to suspect a poltergeist has possessed Helga.

BCM module needed replacing last year as the lights and wipers were doing their own thing...

Now the fuel filler cap pings open when locking the car.  Not the best time for this to happen... >:(

Still love it though.

Cleaning and Detailing / Recommendation for Alloy wheel repair
« on: 28 July 2021, 10:52:08 PM »
Got 2 19" Turbines restored last week.  Lots of corrosion and kerb marks (not all down to me).

Tried the Wheel Specialist in Kingston first - agreed price and date.  When I tried to deliver my wheels and new tyres the place had closed down, I only received a reminder the day before...

So, following Ian Allan (Virginia Water)'s advice I used Premier Wheels in Redhill, Reigate, Surrey.

The job took 3 days and was £104 per wheel (and tyre fitted and balanced) - they look as good as new now.  Just need to refit onto car then I will share images.  Should add that smaller diameter wheels will probably be slightly cheaper.

New Saab 9-5 (2010 on) / Tyre pressures - what are people running?
« on: 30 January 2017, 10:11:56 AM »
Tyres felt a bit splashy this morning so it was time for the first check....

First thing was trying to work out what kpa was...older cars had psi and bar, even older had psi only, Helga only gives kpa.  Realised thanks to Doogle it was bar x100....

pumped up to eco mode (I am on the turbine alloys with Goodyear F1 - Turbo4 model) - 2.8 front and 3.1 rear, car felt sharper....

Over the longer term what do people recommend??

Thanks

Peter

New Saab 9-5 (2010 on) / Has anyone Hirsch'd a 2.0T Aero?
« on: 03 January 2017, 11:22:19 AM »
Hi all,

Getting a 9-5 Aero Turbo 4 to replace my 2009 Aero Turbo Edition Auto...

Got used to my 260PS but at least with the new car being a manual the performance difference won't be significant.

Assuming I can get a deal for the 260PS upgrade - can I ask if anyone else has chosen to boost their 2.0T?

Thanks

Peter

Classic Saab 9-5 (MY 1998-2010) / navigation disks
« on: 17 February 2016, 12:24:38 PM »
Hi all,

tried looking for the old thread but can't seem to find it

Has anyone bought an update disk from these people: http://satnavdiscsale.com/saab-2014-sat-nav-update-dvd-for-all-saab-9-5-navigation-203-p.asp?

I'm getting error messages and the disk that has been in the car since I bought it looks as if it is suffering from 'scoring' £40 doesn't sound too bad - I just hope it's not an issue with the unit.

Thanks

Peter

We have a fox problem on our road.

Ours have an appetite for the rubber and plastic on my antenna - £150 to have a new one fitted yesterday (I have the nav system so a dummy one wouldn't do) and applied some Vaseline (apparently foxes do not like the taste)....

Foxes like Vaseline and fox repellent, well doesn't...

does anyone else have any suggestions (that are legal)?

Got a noise coming from the rear  - thought it was tyres at wrong pressures but it seems to be constant noise regardless of speed/road surface....anything I should consider before calling the Saab servicing agent?

10
which is a bit of a pain really....Ian Allan, although fab for sevicing is a pain to get to...

Background....

Unfortunate encounter with truck meant that the drivers side mirror was severed.

replacement sourced from Neos, car repaired and looks as good.  Minuses with new mirror are lack of memory function (mine has Aero TE spec - all singing all dancing mirror - dimming, folding with memory...To get a unit with dimming is a chore to say the least.  replaced fuse.

because of loss of memory I wasn't expecting not to be able to adjust the driver's side (no matter, service can deal with that) but the passenger side has stopped working now - which is a pain in t'derriere as I live on a narrow road and depend on the dipping mirror to avoid nasty scratches on my wheels.

Spent ages checking the fuses - nothing seems awry there.

So, question is:

could this be the nasty GM cast off mirror switch on the door frame or

a symptom of something else?

Thanks

Peter
